Sketches from a brasry ballet AU idea I had, where Barok & Kazuma are the male leads for a ballet and Ryunosuke is the lead stagehand working backstage.
Panel 1: A mid-shot of Ryunosuke, dressed in a plain black shirt and a stage headset on his head. He smiles, faintly blushing, as he says (in blue thought text) "Besides, I think the scar makes you look twice as hot." Panel 2: Nikolina, Barok, Kazuma, and Susato all stare at Ryunosuke in silence. Nikolina stares in confused disbelief while Susato looks back over her shoulder in silent judgment. Kazuma is scowling, arms crossed, because (1) only he gets to call Barok "hot" and (2) why isn't the cute stagehand calling him hot? Barok just stares at off-panel Ryunosuke, eyes wide and cheeks flushed in silent wonder. Panel 1: Gina and Maria stand behind Ryunosuke in the background. Maria asks, (in black speech text) "Did you mean to say that aloud?" Ryunosuke freezes, eyes wide in silent dread. Gina raises one hand to cover her mouth, eyes shining with delight and body shaking with restrained laughter. Panel 2: Ryunosuke, deeply mortified, pivots his head around to glance back at Gina as if to confirm whether or not he spoke aloud. Gina just clamps a hand over her mouth, hunching over as she fights not to burst out laughing at him. Panel 3: Ryunosuke glances back at Barok & the others (who are off-panel), cheeks deeply flushed. Gina is covering her mouth with both hands, trying desperately not to die laughing. Panel 4: Ryunouske has bolted off-panel as he exclaims, "I've got to check the lights again, bye!" Gina has slid off-panel to the ground and an arrow indicates that she is wheeze-laughing so hard it sounds like she's dying.

TGAA 2 Spoilers

Wherein Barok reveals that he is a vampire, and Kazuma has a completely normal reaction. (baroasoryuu)
A 2 panel comic. In all 4 pages, Barok is drawn in monochrome indigo/purple (with Klint's badge being red), Ryunosuke in monochrome blue (minus Kazuma's red armband), and Kazuma in monochrome red. Panel 1: Barok, arms clasped uncomfortably before him, looks sadly off to the side. He says (to an off-panel Kazuma & Ryunosuke), "You are both indescribably dear to me. Your feelings for me are very much requited. But before we can continue with a relationship, there is one final secret that I've kept from you." Panel 2: Barok, posed as before, says, "I am a vampire. No doubt you have heard many rumors regarding vampires since your arrival in London. I assure you that many have been grossly exaggerated, but..." Panel 1: Barok, continuing his dialogue from the previous page but now off-panel, says, "I will understand if either of you has reservations about my true nature." Ryunosuke and Kazuma stare at him in surprised silence. Panel 2: Ryunosuke takes Barok's hands between his and pulls them to his chest with a gentle smile. He says, "Oh Barok. There's no need to look so fearful. I'm honored by the trust you have in us to reveal this truth." Kazuma just smiles and starts removing his tie in silence. Panel 1: Ryunosuke, continuing his dialogue from before, says, "I know you would never harm us. But if you have concerns..." He trails off when he notices that Kazuma has removed his tie and begun unbuttoning his shirt. Panel 2: Ryunosuke turns to Kazuma with a scowl and asks, "WHAT are you doing?" Kazuma calmly responds, "Making myself available in case he wants a snack." A cut-in shows a mortified chibi Barok screeching, "WHAAAT?!!" Panel 1: Kazuma, sans jacket, sidles over to Barok and drapes an arm around Barok, holding his collar open. He says, "No need to be shy. You can bite me RIGHT here. <3" Barok, blushing and flustered, leans away in embarrassment. Panel 2: Barok poofs into a bat and flies off, leaving Kazuma to fall to the ground.

TGAA 2 Spoilers

I've seen a few catboy Kazumas here and there, so I thought I'd share my bobtail Kazuma catboy. (brasry / baroaso / ryuuaso)

TGAA 2 Spoilers

Wherein Maria Gorey proves to be highly effective at deterring attacks in the street.
A 2-panel comic in black & white with all shading done via hatching. Panel 1: Barok stands in the bottom left foreground, glancing back over his shoulder. He says, "Lestrade, Gorey. Asogi and I will open a path for you two to escape. Go to the nearest police box for help. And whatever happens, do not let them get their hands on that evidence." Behind him, Gina and Maria stand back-to-back. Gina holds her smoke grenade launcher while Maria holds a bundle of evidence close to her chest. On either side of them stand two thugs with knives and scarves/bandanas covering the lower halves of their faces. Both thugs are smirking. Panel 2: Same posing as previous panel. Maria says, "Okay, but can I cut them open after you're done with them? I want to compare their livers." Barok's eyes have gone wide in shock while Gina glances back at Maria flatly. Barok is squinting in utter bafflement while Kazuma only looks mildly curious at Maria's question. Panel 2: Same posing as previous panel. Still utterly baffled, Barok says, "No????? Because they'll still be alive???" The thugs have switched to staring wide-eyed at Barok. Kazuma stares back at Maria (who is still off-panel) with raised brows as she frustratedly asks, "The answer is still 'no' even if they attack us first?" 2-panel comic. Panel 1: A mid-shot of Gina and Maria standing back-to-back. Gina is still holding her smoke grenade launcher and scowls as she says, "I'm with 'Ria on this one. If they attack us first, she should get to do a bit of autopsy as a treat." Maria holds the bundle of evidence close to her chest with her left hand. In her right, she has pulled out a scalpel. One of the thugs from the first two panels can be seen to the right of the panel, still staring at Maria in wide-eyed terror. Panel 2: A mid-shot of Barok and Kazuma standing back-to-back. Kazuma says, "Considering we are under attack, I bet I could successfully argue a plea of 'justified self-defense' in court." Barok massages the bridge of his nose with his right hand, brow furrowed angrily as he says, "Vivisection does not count as 'justified self-defense.' I cannot believe I have to tell you that." The two thugs from their earlier panels are still staring at them with wide eyes. The thug closer to Kazuma has moved further to the right of the panel as if inching away from this confrontation. 2-panel comic. Panel 1: The thug that was close to Barok raises his free hand and says, "Uh...Is it too late for us to make a tactical retreat and pretend this little incident never happened?" Barok just stares at him in frustrated silence, right hand raised in front of his face from where he was massaging the bridge of his nose last panel. Behind him, Kazuma also faces the thug with a scowl. The thug closest to Kazuma is most off-panel, trying to slip away. Panel 2: Same posing as before. Barok says, "You have ten seconds to remove yourself from this scene. And if you are still within my eyesight after, I will not be held responsible for what happens to you." The first thug says, "Duly noted."

TGAA 2 Spoilers

Here's my post for Homumiko Week 2025: Day 5 Investigations. Wherein the partner's investigation is interrupted because SOMEONE is being a stick-in-the-mud about it.

Panel 1: A younger Sholmes and Mikotoba (this takes roughly 12 years before game canon) are disguised in Victorian day dresses, walking arm-in-arm. Sholmes conceals the lower half of his face with a fan as he stares ahead, saying, "Mikotoba, I spy our pray up ahead." However, Mikotoba is looking behind them in alarm at Asogi Genshin, who glares at them furiously, arms crossed in front of his chest. Panel 2: Following one convoluted investigation, Genshin confronts Mikotoba (still in his dress and bonnet). Genshin points angrily at Mikotoba as he says, "First of all, you LIED to me about your plans for this evening." Mikotoba retorts, "Well, if you hadn't banned us from the investigation..." Genshin cuts in with, "Forgive me for trying to protect you from an extortioner and murderer!" Panel 1: A continuation of Genshin & Mikotoba's argument from the previous picture. Genshin, pinching the bridge of his nose says, "Secondly, if you must investigate in that guise, pick a sensible navy blue or brown. Not that atrocious abomination of a yellow." Panel 2: This is the only panel in color. Mikotoba looks down at his dress, revealed to be a garish yellow, and says, "It's not that bad, is it?" Genshin folds his arms across his chest and deadpans, "Like rancid mustard."

Here's one of my older comics featuring the greatest partners.

"What do you mean your name isn't Eugene????"
A 4-panel comic described below. Panel 1: Sholmes slings an arm around a surprised Mikotoba's shoulders, pulling him in close. With a dramatic flourish of his right hand, Sholmes says, "But the culprit was no match for the legendary Herlock Sholmes and Eugene Mikotoba." Panel 2: Susato, Iris, and Ryunosuke sit together on the settee. Susato raises her hand to tentatively interrupt, saying, "Erm...Mr. Sholmes, you know my father's name is Yuujin, not Eugene, right?" Panel 3: A confused Sholmes says, "That's what I said: Eugene." Susato (off-panel), responds, "No, you said, 'Eugene,' not 'Yuujin.'" Panel 4: Sholmes turns to Mikotoba in distress and grabs him by the shoulders. He cries, "I've been calling you the wrong name for the last sixteen years, and you never told me???????" An arrow points to Mikotoba, who is glancing away awkwardly, indicating that he gave up correcting Sholmes after the first week.

Here are some sketches with TGAA characters and Pokemon. I think Susato & Kazuma should catch a pair of Raltses together. (Susato's evolves into a Gardevoir and Kazuma's into a Gallade.) Also, I think Iris would love grass-type Pokemon. She wants to take them all home. Please, Hurley?

Sometimes trials can be brutal, but 221B is always ready with tea and spare blankets for after. (Drawn for TGAA Greatest Family Week in 2023.)

Here's some art I did for TGAA Greatest Family week nearly 2 years ago. The prompts were: dancing, investigation, free day, and long distance.

TGAA 2 Spoilers

So back during asbrry week, one of the prompts was "devotion" and I drew some sketches of the three of them sharing kisses of devotion in pairs. Here are the ones featuring Barok with some hand kisses.
Barok takes Ryunosuke's right hand in his left and raises it to his lips, pressing a featherlight kiss against the knuckles. Ryunosuke stares at him, eyes wide in shock as a blush spreads across his cheeks. This is intended to take place sometime after 2-5 before Ryunosuke returns to Japan. Barok is expression his admiration and appreciation (and maybe his unspoken love) in this one kiss, convinced they will never see each other again. (Don't worry; there are plenty of trips between Japan and London in the future.) Kazuma sits on a sofa in a dim room, a blanket draped over his shoulders as he trembles violently, tears gathering in his eyes in the aftermath of a terrible nightmare. He dreamed that his inner demon took control and killed Ryunosuke & Barok. Barok kneels before him and takes both of Kazuma's hands gently in his, pressing a reverent kiss to both of his palms. A silent reassurance that Kazuma's hands are not stained in blood & that Barok trusts him without any doubt. Kazuma stares down at him in shock, his vulnerability apparent on his face.

The chain of command for trying to keep Kazuma in line.
Barok stands to Kazuma's right (viewer's left), arms crossed as he scowls down at Kazuma. He says, "Kazuma, no." Kazuma stares off-screen, clearly infuriated by whatever he is looking at, angry scribbles coming from his head. He says, "Kazuma, yes." A continuation of the previous scene. Ryunosuke has appeared on the canvas, standing between Barok and Kazuma. Both he and Barok scowl at Kazuma with their arms crossed. Ryunosuke says, "Kazuma, no." Kazuma just glances sideways at him with his own scowl and says, "Kazuma, yes." Further continuation of the previous scene. Susato has joined the group, scowling at Kazuma as she says, "Kazuma-sama, no." Barok & Ryunosuke stand behind her in the background, arms crossed and scowling at Kazuma. Kazuma hesitates this time, remaining quiet for several moments before he says, "Kazuma, yes." A continuation of the previous three parts. Professor Mikotoba has joined the scene. He stands to the right of Kazuma (in the picture) and sternly says, "Kazuma, no." Kazuma, still scowling but less fiercely than before, says, "Kazuma, maybe."

My take on BrAsBr and pet names.
Kazuma darts back and forth behind Barok with a catlike smirk, hands planted on his hips, as he drawls out a list of pet names including, "Sweet cake, sugarplum, lovey-dovey, bunburry, sweetling, and honey bunny." Barok has buried his face in his hands in a futile attempt at hiding how red he is blushing as he groans out, "Stop." A 2-panel comic described below. Panel 1: Barok sits at his desk, looking through a reference book while he writes a report. Kazuma's left hand is in the foreground, holding another report. Kazuma says, "Here's the report you requested, Lord van Zieks." Panel 2: Same posing at the previous panel. Without looking up from his work, Barok says, "Thank you, beloved. Just leave it on the corner, and I'll look over it in a moment." Kazuma arm jerks in shock. Panel 1: Kazuma stands flushed and wide-eyed before Barok's death, frozen in shock. Barok looks up in concern and asks, "Asougi, what--" Panel 2: Barok buries his face in his hands, now blushing as deeply as Kazuma, as he realizes exactly what he just said. Panel 1: Barok half-hides his face behind a hand, cheeks blushing darkly, as he averts his gaze and says, "Forgive me. That just slipped out. If you're uncomfortable, I won't call you that ag--" Panel 2: A blushing Kazuma slams on Barok's desk, startling Barok in the process, as he yells, "NO!"

Wherein Ryunosuke's habit of talking to himself reminds me of a certain scene from "The Emperor's New Groove."
Ryunosuek stands in the middle of the panel. Miniature devil and angel versions of him float above his shoulders. He is looking at his shoulder devil. The shoulder devil points at him with one hand, resting the other confidently on his hip, as he says, "Okay, the truth is painful, but you have to push forward and expose it." The shoulder angel looks on in silence. The view zooms out to show Ryunosuke, the shoulder angel and devil no longer visible, as Ryunosuke has a debate with himself about how to proceed in court without causing excessive emotional damage to those closest to him. Stronghart stands in the foreground with a confused expression, gesturing to Ryunosuke. Kazuma stands in the middle of the panel, shrugging as he says, "Yeah, he does that sometimes." To his right (viewer's left) Barok stares at Ryunosuke in clear confusion, arms crossed. Susato stands on Kazuma's other side, hiding her flushed face behind her hand, trying not to let her embarrassment show further.

Bonus: TGAA 2 Spoilers (TW for bruises)

The ladder broke.
Kazuma sits to the far left of the canvas, studiously looking away from everyone else. A dark bruise sprawls across his left cheek, doing nothing to hide the fact that he is blushing furiously. He is stripped down to just waistcoat and undershirt, his left sleeve rolled up. He dutifully holds up his left arm so that Barok, standing behind him, can bandage his sprained wrist. To the right, Ryunosuke sits in the foreground, face scrunched up in pain as Susato gently dabs at his scraped cheek with a cotton swab. Her brow is furrowed in concentration as she works, the sleeves of her kimono rolled up and tied with a white ribbon to allow her to better tend to Ryunosuke's injury. She carries a jar of herbal salve in her left hand.

Wherein a wintry investigation leads to questionable decisions. (Also, Iris made everyone matching scarves.)

Panel 2: A mid-shot of Kazuma reaching over his head for something. He glances back over his shoulder, glancing down, as he says, "Ryunosuke and I are fetching some evidence that was hidden on the balcony of this home." Like Susato, he wears a bright pink scarf over his cloak. Panel 3: The view zooms out to show Kazuma and Ryunosuke in front of a town house numbered 412. Kazuma is standing atop a rickety ladder, reading for the evidence overhead. A sick, shivering, sneezing Ryunosuke is holding the ladder in place, positioned perfectly on a patch of icy sidewalk. In which Ryunosuke & Susato may have forgotten to tell Hosonaga some vitally important information after they returned to Japan. #tgaa
A 4 panel-comic, described below. Panel 1: Susato and Ryunosuke stand next to each other across from Hosonaga, who is dressed as a cormorant fisherman. Hosanaga says, "Congratulations on your latest victory in court, Naruhodou-san." Ryunosuke smiles and says, "Oh, thank you, Hosonaga san." Panel 2: Ryunosuke turns to Susato and says, "We should tell Kazuma about this trial in our next letter to him." While Susato nods her agreement, Hosonaga stares in wide-eyed shock at them. Panel 3: Hosonaga exclaims, "ASOUGI-SAN IS ALIVE?!!" His head has grown comically in the foreground to express his outrage. Meanwhile, Susato and Ryunosuke are drawn much smaller, knocked back from the force of Hosonaga's exclamation. Minor TGAA 2 Spoilers

Wherein Ryunosuke's bad habits regarding medicine are not allowed to continue.
A 4-panel comic described below. Panel 1: Susato stands in the foreground of a traditional Japanese-style room (the future Naruhodo Law Office). She had been sorting through a pile of documents. Barok sits in one of the armchairs at Baker Street, gladly enjoying his cut of tea. Sholmes drapes himself across the back of Barok's chair as he says, "Mr. Ex-Reaper Uncle Prosecutor, I gladly relinquish your menace back to your care." Barok says, "No, I think you should babysit him for a while longer. I want to see how this farce of an investigation plays out."

TGAA 2 Spoilers

I humbly present my take on the post-game Kazuma + Sholmes dynamic for your consideration.
A 4-panel comic, described below. Panel 1: Iris and Gina sitting on the settee in Baker Street, drinking tea together. A voice off-panel (Kazuma) calls, "We're back!" Iris smiles in the direction of the voice while Gina just glances sideways in curiosity. Panel 2: The view has shifted slightly to the viewer's left so that just Iris can be seen on the edge of the settee. Kazuma walks over to the settee, removing his cap. Iris says, "Hi, Kazzie! How was your investigation with Hurley?" Kazuma says, "It went well. I think we have the evidence I need to--" Panel 3: A sopping wet Sholmes, twigs sticking out of his unkempt hair, storms into view, pointing an accusatory finger in Kazuma's direction. Kazuma just regards him with crossed arms and raised brows. Sholmes says, "I cannot believe you forced me to be the responsible one on this investigation!!" Panel 4: Sholmes gestures toward himself as he says, "Me!" Kazuma just smirks slightly.

A continuation of the modern AU I posted the other day. Wherein Rei & Ryunosuke almost get introduced to the Dance of Deduction. Implied #hmmk.
Sholmes and Mikotoba dancing in the living room of a traditional Japanese style home, both dressed in modern clothes. (Sholmes a polo, sweater vest, and khakis; Mikotoba in a modern suit.) Both are wearing slippers so as not to damage the tatami floor mats. The first few notes of "Partners: The Game is Afoot" float above them, indicating the song that is playing in the background. But I did not draw a music staff, so you cannot tell the specific notes from the illustration. Sholmes and Mikotoba continue dancing to the next line of "Parnters: The Game Is Afoot," smiling fondly at each other. A close-up of Rei and Ryunosuke staring at Sholmes in Mikotoba in confusion. Rei wears a long, yellow cardigan over overalls and a fuschia shirt while Ryunosuke wears an oversized blue hoodie with a red R on it. Rei says, "Uh..." while Ryunosuke says, "What are they...?" Susato and Kazuma come rushing in, both blushing furiously. Susato wears a pink cardigan over a white blouse and fuchsia skirt. Kazuma wears a red and white varsity jacket over a black shirt and jeans. They grab their respective best friends by the shoulders and push them out of the living room. Susato says, "Don't ask questions. Just ignore them." Kazuma says, "Let's leave before they start deducing."

Here's the very first comic I made for TGAA years ago. A hmmk modern au ft shenanigans and embarrassed children.

Sholmes and Mikotoba stand across from each other, wearing modernized versions of their usual clothes. (Sholmes in a pink polo shirt and sweater vest and Mikotoba in a modern, navy suit.) Sholmes, raising his right index finger, says, "My dear Mikotoba, I believe we have a thief on our hands." Mikotoba, one hand resting against his chin in thought, says, "I believe you may be right, Sholmes." A shot of a tray of chocolate chip cookies. Three empty places indicate that there were once a dozen cookies but now only nine remain. Text above the cookies shows that Mikotoba says, "for I distinctly reacall baking a dozen cookies. And yet three are missing." Sholmes responds with, "Fret not, Mikotoba, for we shall get to the bottom of this dreadful theft." Leaning toward Mikotoba, with floating hearts between them, Sholmes says, "Care to join me in a dance of my inimitable logic and reasoning." Mikotoba returns his tender smile and says, "Nothing would please me--" A new voice interrupts, declaring, "WE ATE THE COOKIES!" A teenage Kazuma, holding an infant Iris, scowls in Sholmes and Mikotoba's direction as he says, "We at them, so don't you dare start dancing." Iris, clutching to Kazuma's school uniform jacket, sticks her tongue out at her dads. Susato, roughly eight or nine years, stands beside Kazuma with her own scowl.

While playing through TGAA with some friends, one of them asked if Barok would wear a "If lost return to my learned friend shirt" if he ever visited Japan with the others. These drawings evolved from that conversation. #tgaa
Ryunoskue gives Barok a bottle of saké during his trip to Japan. Barok wears a bright pink t-shirt over his court regalia that reads, "If lost, return to my learned friend." Sholmes, Iris, Susato, and Japan prepare to explore to Japan; Sholmes and Iris are visiting on vacation. Sholmes leads the way in the front with an eager smile, declaring the start of their grand adventures. He wears a bright blue t-shirt over his shirt that reads, "If lost, return to Iris, Miss Susato, or Mr. Naruhodo." Iris stands behind him, hands on hips. She wears a matching blue t-shirt over her dress that reads "Iris." Susato stands behind her, throwing an eager fist forward to match Sholmes' enthusiasm. Her expression is joyful, ready to show Sholmes and Iris around. Her matching blue shirt reads, "Miss Susato." Ryunosuke stands in the bag, shoulders slumped in exasperation, already dreading the antics to come. His shirt reads, "Keep him [Sholmes]."

I like to imagine that Ryunosuke gets invited to girl's night whenever they have a sleepover with Gina. Since he's not allowed to see the inside of Susato's room, he has to be blindfolded, and he has a strict midnight curfew. But before then, he gets to enjoy all the gossip.

TGAA 2 Spoilers

The other day, I did a brasry post along the lines of "perks of having an obnoxiously tall boyfriend." The downside to having an obnoxiously tall boyfriend is that he makes you work for kisses when he's being petty and drastic measures need to be taken to get those kisses.
Barok stands in the middle of the drawing, dressed down to just his frilly shirt and pants, pouting as he tilts his head up to take full advantage of his height. Kazuma stands before him, scowling as he seizes a handful of Barok's frilly shirt with a glare. Ryunosuke hugs Barok from behind, also scowling from where his face is resting between Barok's shoulder blades. Both Kazuma and Ryunosuke are grumbling in frustration. A series of illustrations depicting how to get kisses from Barok when he's being stubborn. This one is titled "Option A: Claim the Higher Ground." The first drawing shows Kazuma carrying Ryunosuke on his back so that Ryunosuke has a slight height advantage over Barok. They speedily advance toward an alarmed Barok. The second drawing shows Ryunosuke cradling Barok's flushed face in his hands as he kisses him intently. The third illustration shows Ryunosuke pulling back from the kiss with a soft smile. He asks, "Better?" Barok, looking away shyly, mutters, "Yes." The last illustration is Barok leaning down to cup Kazuma's face and kiss him. Ryunosuke, still being held by Kazuma, smiles at them. All three have speech bubbles with hearts coming from them to emphasize their shared love. The second series of illustrations on how to get kisses from a stubborn Barok. This one is titled, "Option B: Make Him Fuss Over You." The first drawing shows Ryunosuke attempting to carry Kazuma piggy-back style like in the previous drawing. However, he misses a step and the two have started to topple backwards with alarmed cries, Kazuma's arms flailing wide. Barok, who had been standing off to the side cross-armed, glances over to them in alarm. The second drawing shows Kazuma, Barok, and Ryunosuke cuddled together on a sofa. Both Ryunosuke and Kazuma are wrapped in blankets, holding a bag of ice to their heads. Barok sits in the middle, resting a hand on both of their shoulders to keep them close. He leans to his left (viewer's right) to kiss Ryunosuke's forehead. Ryunosuke smiles widely, delighted to have Barok's affection again. Kazuma sits on the other side, stubbornly facing away from the other two as he grumbles under his breath, cheeks flushed in humiliation.
