Gotta love it

So is this all just a bunch of neighbors that came to the solar-panel hearing to separately litigate a parking issue that is totally unrelated?

Definite possibility. Because of the specific wording of (I believe) a state law, only five of last night’s CM’s needed to vote to approve the change for it to go through

Now a real `what hell Morton’ is how he acted during the meeting. He signed up for five rounds of questions (other councilors only used 2 max) and. When the VM asked him as a courtesy to wrap it up, he argued about it. Not a great first outing

So he represents the district that showed up en masse to oppose the development. I think it puts a dent in his pro-housing bona fides, but it is smart politics when a good chunk of your constituency is right in front of you

Five and a half hours?
And some people were there well before 5:30
February 26, 2025 at 1:00 PM
The traffic study said that the development would only add 3 seconds of travel time even at peak hours. That number seemed too small to many of the community members

There was also a specific issue with the study assuming only 1 car per unit in such a car dependent neighborhood

Zone change is approved 11-1 with CM Morton as the lone "No" vote
February 26, 2025 at 3:58 AM
CM Baxter moves to approve finding of fact recommended by planning commission

CM Brown moves to adopt limit of no more than currently planned units.

Brown's motion passes.

Baxter's amended finding of fact passes 11-1
Morton is the sole "no" vote

Affordable housing is great, but it is abstract. It's different when it is your back yard. This hearing is about zoning, not the whole project.
We are lacking 22,000 housing units in Lex. That's a real need.

CM Grey

knows this area and is familiar with the issues the community faces. Community has shown that they will be heard. Member of public audibly disagreed twice.
The hearings and input will continue

CM Elliger

zoning needs are hard to balance.
Developer has made commitment to include neighbors
February 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
CM LeGris

thanks everyone for the process
February 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
CM Baxter

Originally voted against this hearing. Is glad that it happened anyway, Thanks development team
This development will build more below-median price houses than are currently on the market in Fayette County
February 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
CM Curtis is next

Affirms the concerns of the community
Thinks zone change hearing process should be adjusted to be more open and clear on its purpose
Was upset that the full team wasn't present to defend the proposal
February 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
CM Morton is up next
is strongly opposed to the nature of this development.
Talks about ways outside of this hearing and this development that their concerns are being addressed.
February 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Is supportive, but will encourage more community involvement
February 26, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Meeting is closed. Council moves to discussion

CM Brown is first:
thanks audience. He also first heard about this development in the news.
Believes the developer tried to connect, but wasn't as successful as it could have been.
Is concerned about current business zoning
