(…) Hartverscheurend.” — Katelijne Morreel, Antwerpen Leest

An event that is incredibly close to my heart: the Dutch edition of my new book, Through the Dark Woods, about my son Vladimir, who was abducted and murdered near Moscow in 2002, will be published on September 2, 2025, by De Geus.

Stay tuned for more news about the English edition by Old Street.

My son would have had his birthday today. This photo of him, taken by my youngest brother Lesha long ago at my son’s grandparents’ in Batumi (Georgia), survived a fire, and it survived the winter in a burned-out house without a roof, under rain and snow—a harsh Belarusian winter.

A fantastic review of ‘Russian Gothic’ in The New York Times!

‘The novel elegantly recalls the great poets of delirium and madness that continue to be the reason people around the world turn to Russian literature: Dostoyevsky, Gogol.’

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in THE TELEGRAPH for my Russian Gothic!!!

'Part-Gogol, part-Nabokov and thoroughly magnificent... Russian Gothic has been heralded as an early masterpiece of post-Soviet literature -- a wonderfully, startlingly disconcerting read.’

“Skorobogatov’s complex psychological portrait linking it to the PTSD of war is riveting.”

Great review on my ‘Russian Gothic’ in The Sunday Times!

“Russian Gothic joins the tradition of tales told from the perspective of unhinged narrators, from Gogol’s Diary of a Madman (1835) to Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho (1991).”

Thrilled to announce that ‘Russian Gothic’ has made the list of THE BEST INTERNATIONAL CRIME FICTION OF 2024 by CrimeReads / Literary Hub (USA)! Hugely honored and grateful!

‘A haunting masterpiece of jealously and rage.’ — Molly Odintz, CrimeReads / Literary Hub
