"More and faster" was key. We needed to accelerate in 2022 to a level 2x what we were doing, and at first the trend was going that way. But it sputtered. Then it collapsed for 6 months down to near zero, by orders from Putin's servants in the US. A debacle.

The less educated counties coalesce fairly tightly into a red blob.
A chart from The Guardian of all counties in the 2024 US presidential election, showing how they voted (Democratic vs. Republican) compared to what % of their population has a college education. The labels are "more Democratic" to "more Republican" on the x-axis, ranging between 100 percentage points pro-Dem on the far left edge and 100 percentage points pro-Republican on the far right edge. There is a vertical black line through the center of the chart down to the middle of the x-axis to a spot marked "Even", to indicate counties with no advantage to either party, and therefore the zero-point of the axis. The y-axis measures "fewer graduates" to "more graduates" starting with zero at the bottom and around 70% at the top in order to cover three isolated blue dots in the upper left margin of the chart. Those three most-educated counties range from about 30 to 60 percentage points more Dem. The more Dem counties (colored in blue) on the left half of the chart are widely dispersed vertically between roughly 10% and 70% graduates, and pretty well dispersed horizontally between "Even" in the middle out to about 70 percentage points Dem near the left edge, while the cluster of more Republican counties (colored in red) on the right half of the chart has a small tail of dots stretching up between 40% and 60% graduates, close to the central vertical line, but the other 95%+ of Red counties are clustered as a blob in the lower right corner between 5% and 40% on the y-axis of graduates. The hard, nearly-solid red core of the blob is at about 55 percentage points pro-Republican on the x-axis and 15% college graduates on the y-axis. About a dozen outlier red dots sit next to the right edge, between 90% and 100% Republican, and 15% to 40% educated. Apologies for the exhaustive detail but this is an awesome chart.
