More than you ever wanted to know about Skipper dolls. The picture is of the 1987 Jewel Secrets dolls: Ken, Skipper, Whitney, Barbie, Skipper and Ken.
Because I haven't been feeling well, I wasn't able to finish my Holidays 2025 calendar. Here it is, at last!

Barbie had four Fashion Starter outfits in 1990 and Skipper had two. These were sold only at Walgreens.

Do you think that Mattel originally pictured Skipper as just a redhead? I have seen more photos, and have seen more titian Skippers from 1964 and 1966 in person, than I have of the blondes and brunettes. Here are four of them that I own; these are not oxidized brunettes.

Here are two more booklets. The first booklet is from late 1968; the second from 1969.

Note that the top booklet shows some of the 1967 outfits, but the bottom one is all for 1968. TNT Skipper's stock number changes. Her swimsuit on the top page has striped panties. I own a number of the 68 TNT swimsuits, but none of them look like that.

My Merry Skipper play powder was one of the 1st items I acquired after I started collecting in the 80s. I don't know which set it goes to. I swear that either I or someone I knew well had the set in the 60s, because every time I look at the container a long-hidden brain cell tries to recall a memory

There were many makeup & house sets by My Merry for both Barbie & Skipper. I've accumulated a number of Skipper items over the years but never one complete set. One was called Dress Up Date. I've never figured out if Skipper was supposed to be dating someone, or if "date" simply meant "outing.

My Merry sold a number of trinkets for Barbie and Skipper in the 1960s. I acquired the Play Powder soon after I started collecting in 1984.

There are no more details about the design of Skipper. However, later in the book (1974), there are two pages about the making of Growing Up Skipper, which I've copied here.

Renee Rosen has written a novel called Let's Call Her Barbie, a fictionalized account of Mattel between 1955-1976, copyright 2025 Penguin Random House. I want to warn you, the book is raunchier than expected, especially regarding doll designer Jack Ryan, who must've slept with every woman at Mattel.

Here are two versions of Ideal's Dodi. On the left is Tuesday Taylor's younger sister from the 1970s, and on the right is Pepper's friend Dodi. It's my opinion that the doll on the right is Misty's sister.

On the left is Miss Kitty and on the right is a doll whose name I cannot remember off the top of my head. I have owned the waffle weave blouse and pink skirt for as long as I can remember (mid-1960s) and I have no idea who they were originally for. I bought the sundress last year off of ebay.

I call this photo "coats no one ever wore in real life." Left to right are Living Barbie in Maxi N Mini, TNT Stacey in Snug Fuzz, TNT Barbie in Smasheroo (one of the first outfits I bought as an adult collector) and TNT Skipper in Drizzle Sizzle.

I've always loved taking photos of dolls in the snow, wearing their winter coats or ski outfits. The first one I will show you is of 1975 Gold Medal Barbie and Ken in their skiing outfits. Mattel made an ice skating outfit for Skipper, but not one for skiing. Has she ever had a skiing outfit?
