Seems he was getting his wife to do all that. As someone with experience of being ghosted and disinherited by a narcissist male successful in his field, I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of plausible NPD.

Using AncestrydotCom but it's very buggy and not very good, so doing some work on other online sources. Using the top dollar Ancestry account which I can't maintain for long. It's irritatingly Amerocentric too. I don't give a fig about Confederate Generals, Alamo heroes and Boston innkeepers

Parish records don't exist much past 1500s unless you have aristocratic or gentry conn, but even then. Spellings don't help but often recreate the local accent of the time, which I love

I'm trying to solve a familial secret or mystery, the identity of my great grandfather who got my great grandmother pregnant when she was only 17. We reckon it was her 60 year old employer. She was his housemaid. Was hoping DNA would sort it out but it hasn't.
