Barnsley Labour Councillor for Darfield ward.
Cabinet Support Member - Environment & Highways.
Berneslai Homes Board Member.
I carry my own bags now.
🚨 Reform UK in Doncaster: falling apart faster than a cheap suit. Branch chair quits. Councillor walks out to sit as Independent.

Meanwhile, Labour stays united — focused on delivering for people, not drama.

🚨 This week I seconded Barnsley Labour's Labour call to BAN fracking permanently.

At the next election the choice is clear:
🌱 Labour = clean energy + lower bills
⚠️ Reform UK = Fracking Hell

Where’s the boat, Nigel?

Where’s your boat, Nigel?
Reform UK’s leader is “heavily invested in fishing” – so why hasn’t he registered it?

In my letter published in today's @barnsleychronicle.bsky.social I suggest the deeper meaning of Easter is becoming lost in chocolate and rabbits.

My friend and neighbour Kevin Haynes joined me this afternoon in repainting the Houghton Main Miners' Memorial Wheel on Middlecliffe Lane Little Houghton.

Before the Darfield Library opening this morning I was able to briefly pop along to join Andrea Walker, Barnsley Council's South Area Environmental Project Officer and our Barnsley Council Environmental Team in a #greatbritishspringclean

Great to be able to attend the official grand opening of Darfield Library this morning, performed by Cllr John Clarke, the Mayor of Barnsley. It was a particularly well chosen day as 1st April 2025 makes it 60 years since it was first opened.

Great to join Barnsley Council's Barnsley South Area Team Environmental Project Manager Andrea Walker and community volunteers at the latest #GBSpringClean event on the Longbow Field today.

Joined Berneslai Homes staff on a regular, scheduled 'Estate Walkabout', this morning in the Verona Rise/Upperwood Road area. This offered an opportunity for Berneslai Homes staff to identify any environmental issues and reporting jobs to the BMBC Neighbourhood Services

Preparing for 'The Longest Day' tomorrow. I'm doing it with a musical twist.

Attended the David Jones and Joe Green Memorial Lecture at the NUM Headquarters in Barnsley. Two fine speeches given by Stephanie Peacock MP and Grahame Morris MP made a fitting tribute to two men who died fighting for their jobs, their industry and their communities.
Rest in Peace.

Residents and drivers would have seen another hedgerow laying session taking place along A635 Doncaster Road today. This traditional skill, which plays a crucial role in countryside management, was part of a training session organised by the Barnsley Council's PROW team.

Back from Yorkshire and Humber Labour Conference, straight out in my community on a litter pick. Worked with my wife to collect bags, most just slung out of passing vehicles. #tossers.

Great to see my Labour Councillor colleagues James Higginbottom and Dr Alex Burnett making speeches at Labour's regional Yorkshire and Humber Conference today, supporting motions that will make a difference to our communities. Barnsley Labour, working hard for Barnsley not talking it down
March 2, 2025 at 4:00 PM
I joined my Barnsley councillor representatives at Labour Yorkshire and Humber Regional Conference with keynote speeches from Rachel Reeves, Hilary Benn, Yvette Cooper and John Healey setting out where our Labour government is working to restore pride and purpose in our country.
Great stuff! 🌹

Especially for #ValentinesDay I highlight the work performed by Barnsley Council's'How's thi Ticker?' campaign and The British Heart Foundation in supporting heart health in a letter published in today's @barnsleychronicle.bsky.social
You only have one heart, try not to break it.

Great to see GXO Logistics staff from the ASOS distribution warehouse in Little Houghton, Barnsley volunteering to clear up litter on A6195 Park Spring Road. 43 bags made up mostly from litter thrown from vehicles. Thank you. #LoveWhereYouLive #KeepBritainTidy.

During today's litter pick came across this cache of Nitrous Oxide cannisters. Those who dumped them are aerosols.

Tidying up layby on the A635 Doncaster Road, close to Billingley. Really disappointed to see high levels of littering and flytipping. This work is funded by BarnsleyCouncil South Area Team, blending community volunteers and council employees.

BarnsleyCouncil repair the 'Yellow Bridge' on A6195 Park Spring Road close to GXO/ASOS in Little Houghton. This is a temporary patch with a 18mm step on it. It does mean however that the bridge and footpath can be reopened to the public until a permanent repair can be funded.

This is Peter Winks.
He trains racehorses.
Cancer took his larynx.
However he rang the bell on cancer last week and yesterday held a celebration of life at Houghton Main Miners' Welfare.
Peter Winks is a good man.

In her letter published in today's @barnsleychronicle.bsky.social my Labour ward colleague Pauline Markham sends out a challenge to our community: Illegal off roaders must be reported to SY Police for them to take action. Working collectively will hopefully put an end to their selfish activity.
