Recently, @excelguru.ca walked at student through a #PowerQuery solution to:
✅Extract the correct year from a header
✅Isolate it as its own value
✅Merge it back into the transaction data before converting everything into proper dates.

In a recent AKA session, one attendee asked how to replicate #PowerBI-style colour grading inside a single #Excel PivotTable – without needing a second helper pivot to drive the colour rules. @excelguru.ca built a clever workaround:

If you’ve ever added a column to a #PowerQuery-generated table to keep commentary, flags, or status codes, you know the pain: as soon as new records arrive or sorting changes, your notes stay in the old row positions – now attached to the wrong records. 😬 A student brought this to an AKA) session.🧵
Keeping Notes Attached to the Right Rows in Power Query Problem: You’ve added a “Notes” column to your Power Query-generated table, but when new records are added or sorting changes, the notes don’t stay with their records. Solution: Create a “History” query and merge the Notes column data into the original query! (Screenshot of two tables of data. In our last AKA session, an attendee asked why the #PowerBI report built by a consultant kept losing its table column headers whenever they scrolled down the table. Even the slicer vanished! 😠

@excelguru.ca hopped in and spotted the culprit: the canvas had been set to a massive custom size! 🧵

A massively set custom canvas size, so scrolling inside a visual turned into scrolling the entire oversized canvas!
