Rest in Power to the only president to have earned my respect as a human being.
Carter used the power of his post presidency to nearly eradicate guinea worm. There were 3.5 million cases when the Carter Center’s work began in 1986. He said in 2015 that he wanted to see “guinea worm completely eradicated before I die.” There’ve been 7 cases this year. www.npr.org/sections/goa...
Jimmy Carter took on the awful Guinea worm when no one else would — and he triumphed
Carter targeted diseases primarily affecting the poor in remote areas — notably "Guinea worm disease." Because of his commitment, case numbers plummeted from 3.6 million a year to just 13 in 2022.

If we taught modern monetary theory in schools people wouldn't buy into this bullshit.
BTW: the debt ceiling shouldn’t exist. It’s just a way they hold a proverbial gun to our head and threaten to crash the economy.

We print our💰—We should pay our bills. Despite what @MarshaBlackburn says, “debt” is not an issue if we keep inflation down. www.brookings.edu/articles/why...

Sick days are not a limited resource that the company cannot provide more of without taking them from elsewhere. They're a social construct and there's no reason we cannot provide them without limit to those in need.

A bank account they can withdraw from.
All the GOP plans to cut government spending involve decreasing human services and human resources.

What is a society that doesn’t invest in its people or accept the investments of its people?

What do they think America is supposed to be?

if you read a reply and think, "That's the stupidest fucking thing I've read in a while,"
and it's also way too wordy, formal, etc? it's probably a bot!

you can check their replies for HUNDREDS of similarly worded, often barely intelligible, replies

please report them when you see them

Normalize closing businesses entirely between thanksgiving and new years. People were not meant to work when it gets bright at 7AM and dark at 4:30PM.

I was on bsky pretty early, and very recently started following political accounts with the influxes occurring. So now my feed is this weird mix of shit posting trans friends and excessively wordy leftists explaining exactly why society is ending. The emotional whiplash is certainly something.

Optimistic Sci-Fi is an underutilized genre.
I was listening to an interview with Ayana Elizabeth Johnson a few days ago who said we need more stories in Hollywood depicting a solutions oriented future beyond dystopia.

My first thought: Star Trek’s been there this entire time. Gene Roddenberry+ have given us a lot on which to build.

Good advice to everyone on BlueSky
You can voice your opinion about Kash Patel without retweeting DT. PLEASE do not turn BlueSky into Twitter/X by continually retweeting him. Let’s not become a garbage dump for Truth Social. Just state your viewpoint without platforming him. Thanks.

It bothers me to no end that most of the leadership in this country is older than the internet. They are FUNDAMENTALLY disconnected from what the world has become. The world they lived in and are making rules about, no longer exists. We need newer younger leadership.
Or get rid of the ancient “leadership” and make room for more young people. Carville has never been relevant in my lifetime and at 80…just shut up.
"We don’t know how people get their information...[we need] an exhaustive, detailed, well-fielded, well-constructed survey on media consumption."

Here's James Carville laying out his idea for a deep dive by Dems into how people get their news these days:
