National Lampoon Christmas Vacation

It sure was a Christmas comedy from 1989. Just one of those movies where everything goes wrong. It had a few good jokes, but it wasn't anything special.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (Movie)

A big improvement over the first movie, and I had a ton of fun watching how they decided to adapt thongs, despite it not really being a great movie. All of the animatronics look unbelievably great. It's all still very silly, but it never feels out-of-touch.

Soma

The story and themes of this game are great. All of the rules of its setting feel natural so quickly, and the art direction is hauntingly beautiful and unique. The protagonist drove me a little crazy by being dense as bricks, but I'll always be a sucker for Frictional's interaction mechanics.

Spirited Away

Just got the chance to finally watch it for the first time in theaters, and I see why it's so highly regarded. It's unbelievably creative, and flows more alike a painting. The concepts were so imaginative, but all felt natural after just a few minutes. It was all so beautiful.

Nier Replicant (2021)
(All Endings)

Fantastic, creative game that feels smooth as butter. Playing through it like 5 times really tested my patience at times, but I'd always rather a unique, creative game than a totally safe one. Definitely not like anything I've played before. Big fan of Kainé

I also love how this presents in Charlie later on, as she takes after him most closely—this time seeing Jake as the one trying to make sense of her feelings and motivations.

this is more detailed than my usual commentary, but I absolutely love the choice to make Jake come off as nearly inscrutible in episodes that focus on someone else's perspective. Without someone who understands him (like Finn) to bounce off of, he almost seems like a different character.

Hollow Knight
(Dream No More Ending)

I've made my complaints about Hollow Knight known in the past, but on this playthrough I've really come around on it. Despite its heavily frontloaded progression, it manages to contain more flavor and history than almost anything else like it. It's truly special

Naked Gun (2025)

It may not be quite as dense and consistent as the original, but I'm happy to say it's still an extremely funny movie and gives me hope for spoof movies to return in the future. This proves it can be done.

Portal 2 (Cooperative Testing Initiative)

Portal 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, but I've never played the cooperative campaign until now. Without a significant story and set pieces that made the singleplayer so awe-inspiring, it's simply more great test champers with a fun little spin.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

I was high asf when I watched this movie, but I think it would've felt like a little bit of a fever dream even if I wasn't. It's certainly at times the most visually striking marvel movie I've seen in a LONG time. It may the best-looking one of these since Iron Man.

Fukakai na Boku no Subete o (reread)

This is one of the few pieces of art I feel truly understood by. It moves me more and more every time I read it, and it's responsible for getting through my head just how monumental good representation can feel, let alone everything else it does so tastefully.

Superman (2025)

I enjoyed this far more than I expected. Lex Luthor's pure spite and cruelty made him one of the best superhero movie villains I've ever seen, and Mister Terrific fucking ruled. The anti-Zionist messaging was comically heavy handed, but maybe that's what we need right now.

Thunderbolts*

Better than it's been lately, but still a recent Marvel movie. Basically megamind with daxflame as tighten, though the characters were decently fun. There was a pretty eh representation of somebody with bipolar disorder, but it at least had some neat visuals.

Project SEKAI the Movie: The MIKU Who Can't Sing

I was super impressed by the way this movie handled themes inherent to being a creative, and for others to hear and find meaning in your voice. It pulled off focusing on so many characters much better than I expected.
