I’m a FT teacher so it’s not really been my priority… which is to say here and there, but no shop or gallery

And just for fun, this is the first image I have of it.

Sometimes it’s nice to map and measure and lay everything out…

But it’s also really fun to just grab a brush and figure it out as you go. 😁

A month later, I grabbed a blank panel and 💥boom💥. Things developed a bit over time, but the bulk of the painting was there on the first pass.

Here it is at the end of that first session.

Sometimes painting is like that. Usually it’s not, but when it is, it’s a real joy.

It was like living in champagne bubbles.

And there in the middle of it all was the most adorable little death bird— watching, preening, waiting to strike.

I digiscoped a bit of video and went about my business… but that image stuck.

As I watched him, I was enveloped in sensation— wind blowing from the river; the smell of mud & winter; the songs of finches, wrens, & sparrows; the rumbling of cars & trains across the river. Even the gray-looking sky was actually full of color, shimmering as the mist filtered the thin sun.

In 2022, I took my scope down to Chapel Harbor on the Allegheny River to look for waterfowl. As I walked down the waterfront, I caught sight of a male American Kestrel perched in a sycamore tree.

This was at a banding event, and it was unbelievable how tiny they were! I’ve never seen one in the wild (someday…), so it was a real treat.

They clacked their little beaks and acted fierce, but were such tiny little nuggets.

This is part of why I deeply appreciate a good deadline.

This location name makes me imagine a Beginner Marsh and an Advanced Marsh… the latter would probably have lots of hybrids, gulls, & identical-looking waders.

Lovely bird and lovely pic!
