“Robot” Slavic “robota”, means “labor,” “work,” or “servitude.” In Czech robota referred to compulsory peasant labor. In R.U.R., the “robots” are not metal machines, but artificially created biological beings, designed to work in place of humans- predecessors of modern humanoid artificial beings.

The term "robot" introduced 1920 Czech Karel Čapek in play "R.U.R." Rossum's Universal Robots
Čapek admitted actually coined by brother, painter and writer Josef. Karel was unsure how to name the artificial workers in his play and consulted his brother, who suggested the word “robot.”
