Sponsor: Society for Queer Medieval Studies Organisers: Kate Maxwell and Teresa Pilgrim Rebellion and responsibility: Queer bodies and texts as sites of trauma and protest Content warning: violence, abuse, rape. This session will explore queer bodies and texts as witnesses of trauma and weapons of protest. In particular, it seeks to use queer theory/ies (broadly conceived) and medieval texts/artefacts to understand and transform queer lives. Rooted in but not limited to the medieval, this session takes a chrono-non-normative and comparative approach across art, music, history, hagiography, and literature. Through this, the papers consider queer bodies (past and/or present) as a means of violence, transformation, and healing.
