That idea was so pervasive in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. It was everywhere that if you truly believed in your relationship, you had to be willing to "fight" for it - eg, be an absolute jag to anyone you saw as a potential threat. I totally feel you on this.

That's super interesting, because anecdotally I've heard a lot of folks really disliking the war. Maybe we just hone in on that which contradicts our thoughts 😂

I am also in that minority (?) that preferred the Dominion storylines. That's not to say the first seasons are weak, though. Absolute best Trek bar none.
