I loved your book. It made me incredibly sad but it also made me want to visit all the places you talked about. Many years ago when I was a kid (and we took many great American road trips back in the 1960s) we visited Meramec Caverns. I still remember the Jesse James stories.

And apparently the word comes from the Myrmidons who were followers of Achilles (I recommend the Emily Wilson translation of the Iliad). And according to Merriam Webster, "Myrmex means 'ant' in Greek, an image that evokes small and insignificant workers mindlessly fulfilling their duties."
