I did. No vacations. Cut everything down to absolute minimums. Took my
lunch to work every day for nearly 40 years. Cooked all of my own meals, with rare exceptions. (I’d meet a friend at a restaurant about once a week if I had the cash; that was prepandemic. And I paid cash: my monthly allowance.)
