Being a father doesn't make you a good person. I feel bad for his family, but everyone has some family. All those kids who've died in school shootings have parents and siblings mourning them forever. And he didn't care for them. So why care for him?

It depends on what they say and how they say it- and that goes for anything someone likes. If someone says something you like is bad/stupid/annoying, etc, and it holds a lot of value for you personally, it's hard not to take it as an insult to your character.
