You have wondered: when waves disturb soft mud on the seabed, does the mud erode as grains, or as clumps? You be the judge. This pic is the bottom of a 40 cm square box core, showing the eroded seabed (looks like the top of a brain) with fluid mud that has flowed off, at the bottom of the pic.

I can't help it, sharing more pics from the banks of the Mississippi. Please use for enjoyment or teaching as you wish. Mississippi River point bar, St Gabriel, La. Top to bottom, my suggestion is dune cross stratification by the spatula, then flame structures, and climbing ripples.

What to celebrate today? The 29th birthday of the great person shown here and also beautiful dune cross stratification, climbing ripples, and mud from a previous flood (top to bottom), all shown for scale. On the banks of the great Mississippi, St Gabriel LA, September 2002.

On the #MississippiDelta, towns line old and new river channels, creating a tenuous intertwining of people and water threatened by delta retreat. This is Cocodrie LA, home of #LUMCON, our state marine lab, built along the banks of Bayou Petit Caillou.

Good Morning! I am a #coastalgeologist @lsugeology.bsky.social. Many of us do this work because of people. Here is my #sedimentology class a few years back on the #MississippiRiver. Many are now successful practicing geoscientists. @lsuscience.bsky.social
