A student glazed the bottom of their work, left no note to use a stilt in the kiln. It was a lucky, lucky break - pun intended - that it came free of the kiln shelf.

Timely Local news in our sanctuary city has been vital to staying safe and knowing where and how to help our neighbors. Daniel has been running and funding The Santanero on his own for a few years from his wages as he works his way through college! Read his work, help him grow. www.santanero.org

Keeping on. Tired. It’s hard to rest in Santa Ana lately.

Continuing the sculpture in progress: I got to make a bottle rack type tool for the next part, but fired in the kiln too soon and too quickly. Yes, it exploded to smithereens! 🤞 for a successful slow fire today so I can wrap this series up and share it.

Three lousy millimeters and but a few inches of space to move are what stand between a broken pug mill, and one that will function for another forty years. Leverage, not strength.

Yes.. take a peek here, getting closer to done. The resin sealed the prints in place on the ceramic traps, made it look extra wet.

When dating, we used to tell each other “you’re my favorite person”. We beamed when we heard it as dialogue in a film we watched. We still say it to each other, and to our kids, and our friends. Now I hear it from my boss and friend. Have you got favorite people too?

I 3D printed them in PLA. I wrote the words first, photographed the words and edited them, then turned the file into a .stl file for printing.

“Project season” has got a hold of me lately: sculpture, furniture refinishing, antiquing, and being adjacent to others’ fond reminiscences. All these activities encourage an appreciation for what was, how things worked, the context of systems, and also inspire longing to incorporate it into now.

Carnivorous plants … I get to tinker with the kiln this weekend. While these came out o.k., it took 20 hours to reach temp., should’ve taken 5 hours. These can be so much better than this. Re-glaze/re-fire time after I find and fix the kiln issue.
