Small-scale discord is pretty great IMO.
Medium-scale, semi-public ones can be fun if you put the effort in. I participate in exactly 1.
Huge ones, like for popular video games are just entirely unusable.
VC will probably be the undoing of discord, either spectacularly or gradually (ads, etc).

I (American) most often use “rubbish” to refer to something that is half-assed, but still cool. For example, a Star Wars costume made out of obvious cardboard boxes would be a Rubbish Boba Fett. (The fact that it is made with actual garbage is not relevant. It’s the medium effort that counts.)
