Retired and gardening.
I probably am insulting 3rd world nations - my understanding is they are embracing the most progressive technology which means maybe the U.S will be in its own special status of a country regressing.

Interior Department announced it was suspending five offshore wind farm leases, citing national security concerns. The farms represent 100% of major offshore projects under construction. The U.S. is rushing to attain 3rd world status.

Less than 48 hours to go in the economic black out and I can proudly say I spent a total of only $ 2.04 so far (grocery store). I confess, I have started a shopping list but the only items on it would be a large bale of straw & double stick scotch tape.

OK - Day 5 of the boycott and zilch money spent. I will confess though I fantasized about 100 bags of organic compost/manure miraculously appearing in the backyard. But my sister offered to rake out the chicken pen for me so the temptation to go into town and spend money passed.

Day 2 of the Economic boycott. $ spent. Zero. I did strip the marzano tomato plants and reduce the last of the tomatoes to sauce. Not enough to justify boiling enough water in the pressure canner to can it. So I'll just freeze.

I have decided to embrace the economic "Blackout" from Nov 25 to Dec 2 with the same OCD Fervor & irrational addictive behaviour I once reserved for Diablo II in my youth. Food and medicine are exempt from my boycott. Today I spent 2.04 on (bulk garlic) & (ginger root). I'll keep count each day

"When bad people do bad things, I expect it. When good people do nothing, I just want to fucking punch them in the face." A line that was spoken in a movie I am half-listening to as I sew. It resonates. The movie is about a penguin and a fascist coup in Argentina.

"Project Iceworm was a top secret United States Army program of the Cold War . . . The goal was to install a vast network of nuclear missile launch sites that could survive a first strike . . . necessary consent from the Danish Government to do so was never obtained.

I always feel like a bit of a mass murderer after thinning the carrot rows. The chickens are always thrilled.

Just a note to say my sister is super thrilled to have received her welding tools. And I reflect that, statistically speaking, I am amazed at how inspirational (or entertaining as the case may be) my siblings are proving to be in their dotage.

My brother prepares to exercise his 1st amendment rights. I understand rain warnings are in effect.

Read a thread in response to Canadian official talking about tariffs on drinks in aluminum cans from US and proposal that Canada should produce their own aluminum cans. Cue many clueless maga posts. Amongst all the posts not one that the US imports the aluminum from Canada to make those cans

Slate Auto is a new start-up for a no-frills EV truck to challenge the Tesla market. Note that Slate is an anagram of Tesla. Further note that Jeff Bezos is backing/funding (perhaps starting?) this company. Fuck Bezos and the billionaires scrapping over who gets the next billion.

I dumped all things Amazon very early on (January triggered by the censoring of Ann Telnaes). I suggested to a "staunch" democrat a month later that she do the same. She demurred - she could never get rid of Amazon Prime because of convenience and bargains. Wonder how that's working out for her.

For people who are feeling depressed because the U.S. is being flushed down the toilet by the current administration here is something to cheer you up and remind you that outside of the U.S. sane adults are still doing vital work: spacenews.com/vega-launche....
Vega launches Biomass satellite
A Vega C rocket successfully launched an Earth science satellite for the European Space Agency, a mission officials said was also a demonstration of European space sovereignty.

"Elon Muskin ja Yhdysvaltain valtiovarainministeri Scott Bessentin erimielisyyksistä alkanut sanaharkka olivat äityä käsirysyksi, kertovat riitelyä todistaneet lähteet." I think I just discovered the Finnish equivalent of the National Enquirer.

OK I have to take a break from the political and do a PSA on gardening. STOP THE GREAT POTATO TOWER HOAX. I speak from sad, sad experience when I first tried it quite a few years back. www.thegardenacademy.com/vegetables/t...
The Great Potato Tower "Hoax" - The Garden Academy
Hoax is maybe too strong a word, but for Gulf Coast gardeners, it might as well be a hoax.  Save yourself some disappointment and grief and go to Growing Irish Potatoes to Read More

So the FDA suspends testing milk - Piffle! What's a little yeast, mold, heavy metal or bacteria going to hurt? Why heck - if it's the right mold, if you let it fester long enough it'll be a gourmet cheese!

Suggestions please for European digital services for those interested in avoiding Meta, Apple, Google etc. How feasible is it?

On the Supreme Court and deportation without due process - so now we know - Alito and Thomas aren't merely conservatives - they are traitors. Ya know - due process - that thing that is pretty much central to democracy and justice. Alito and Thomas - remember them.

Cartoon from the Helsingen Sanomat Rough translation - Did you see that Elon? Is it cheating? I hit him but he didn't hit back. Finnish fluent or native speakers feel free to correct my interpretation.

OK - Trump didn't impose tariffs on EVERY single country - he gave 2 countries a pass : Russia & Belarus. Whitehouse explanation is we don't buy a "lot" from Russia - so that 1.3 billion dollars of fertilizer we bought in 2024? And exactly how much ice have we bought from Heard & McDonald Islands?

@crazytexaninnc.bsky.social Marti! Anne showed me a photo of you and Bob at your local "Hands Off!" rally. Thanks for showing up - we like to think you stood in not only for yourselves but for 2 old cranky ladies in west texas whose city ignored the demonstrations (seriously - nothing here)

" ... Canadian importers are buying Brazilian oranges. ---
In Canadian industry news this is being reported as a result of the Canadian buying shift away from US goods.
In US industry news it's reported as "hmmm... this seems to be a natural commodity correction but we can't determine the cause".
