Been sick all week… finally better! Made it to the mailbox to get the CUTEST new hoodie dress that’s been held in mail limbo since Sept 9th… now I’m exhausted.

Lol these are literally my voyageur Métis ancestors, sketched by my g-g-g-grandpa. They were on their way west with the fur trade.
I bet they made delicious pea soup! Especially since their Dad/Grandpa was from Quebec City.

Lots of Métis adventures today. So much walking… I liked the “sitting on a bench” part!
But super incredible to leave some tobacco for Louis Riel, visit the St. Boniface Cathedral site, and honour MMIWG.

Fun fact that many won’t talk about: Terry Fox was Métis (from the Gladue family of Turtle Mountain First Nation). His brother worked with MNBC to develop a sash honouring his life and legacy.

It’s such a colonial racist mindset. Alberta is treaty land. No, That doesn’t mean non-Indigenous people are gonna have their houses stolen (side-eyes BC AG) but it does mean leaving “Canada” will involve 100 years or so of new negotiations with the Crown and every treaty rights holder.

It also explains so much of the intergenerational crap passed down from residential schools - again, lived experience but nice to be recognized for what it is.

It’s pouring with rain, so the dog asked if we could have a cookout in the backyard under the gazebo.
Then he went and invited some people*
So now we’re experimenting with fruit and pastry and a cast iron sandwich maker!
