It’s one thing to hear about black women dealing w/ miscarriages but when it comes from someone you’re close to, it hits heavy. Just as much as I don’t want anything to happen to my best friend, her fiancé or my godson, the pain she suffered internally and the loss she unexpectedly felt truly hurts.
My best friend telling me she had a miscarriage and she didn’t know she was pregnant has been the news that’s been emotionally heavy to deal with today. 😔

You can only imagine how I felt when I became single again and everyone trying to prove they’re “masc”, or they’re “sub” or they’re “a side” and “I don’t do this or that” and it just becomes irritating because some folks really don’t know how love truly works. Some are lost. Some will never know.

My last relationship taught me a lot about appreciating what was right in front of me—no agenda needed. No need to figure out who plays what role. We were just thriving with each other. What I thought love would look like for me turn out to be the biggest blessing I never knew I’d experience.

When you’re a queer person in a relationship, you’re just thriving in the midst of love, unconditionally and authentically. I never understood why these ‘roles’ we identify with matter because once I’m in a relationship, your trajectory changes. At least for me, I’m everything in one.

That’s why being single can sometimes be exhausting to me because I really don’t care what or who identifies with what. I see all of us as queer people. That should be enough to distinguish us but unfortunately, we have to break down the components of identification in this community for attention.

One thing I always appreciated about being in a relationship is not caring about joining in on conversations about M4M, masc/fem characterization, Top/Verse/Bottom agendas, hook up culture, etc … because none of that shit matters when you’re thriving with a partner. It’s honestly remedial.

People laugh but I always end my emails with “love, peace and chicken grease” as a gratitude to making my team and clients put a smile on their face during stressful times.

I ask God to send me challenges that will push me harder as a creative director and multidisciplinary artist so I can create the platform I aspire to become. I don’t care for fame. I only care for creating the template to leave a legacy that black artists will never have to feel alone.

I am aware how some of my theories can be a bit confusing and misunderstood while positioning myself as a creative director but all of what I do is done with intention. The intention to preserve as an artist, the intention of making black culture an importance to the movement I believe in.

When my great-grandmother showed me this box of archives she kept for decades of black culture and excellence, I knew right then what my life goals were. I didn’t just want to create the material but I wanted to intentionally design the space to live within it. I never gave up on that dream.

I hope everything I’m doing now gets recognized to inspire the next generation of black artists to know they will always have a home to preserve the creativity we put out and merge our culture into spaces that feels like home without someone else taking ownership of what belongs to us, for us.

I always cared about being a visual storyteller, which explains my obsession to the editorial world. Merging fashion, entertainment, contemporary art, music and film was part of the process to lay those foundations so my multidisciplinary approach was integrated into what I want my future to behold.

I look back at a lot of my work because I was enthusiastic about making a home of preserving the uniqueness of black culture within the elements of fashion, art, and design. There’s a theory to my madness. There’s a reason why I created an artistic movement as such a young age. It’s so intentional.

Although, I am very happy to conceptually practice the element of being a businessman, I don’t want to forget why I chose to be in this position. It’s so important to know that everything I am doing is simply because the alternate goal is being an archival—multidisciplinary artist for my generation.

This is the first time in three weeks I am waking up at 7AM (which is a decent time for me). My sleep pattern has been thrown off so much, which would explain why I’ve been going through anxiety episodes and impatient tendencies.
