One newbie to the deck seed feast today, maybe a Common Flicker? The bird has a warm brown zebra-back, a red patch at the nape, a black band at the throat, and a long beak. Only here for a minute or two. Pederson's Eastern Birds is not definitive. What do you think?

The elderflower is blooming. I wish I could capture the aroma, sweet wild rose and fruitiness. Mine grows by the raspberries and they both seem happy.

It’s been consistently wet in our MA garden all summer so much that we’ve recorded many mushrooms not seen here before. Our small group of oak trees are the draw and each week there’s fresh wonder.
