now that I have the subtitles, it's really clear how they work and how they tie into cutscene timing. by adjusting the arguments to certain control opcodes, I can speed through the cutscenes instead of waiting for voice lines to finish.

I've seen a bunch of people claim that you can only unlock certain characters in Mario kart world in certain locations via Kamek.
But I just unlocked three characters in back-to-back races after an hour of no Kamek. And only one of them I think should actually have spawned here.

it looks like it's periodically sending this "Add to Cart" message every ~60 seconds or so which responds with the error. So my guess is that it uses that request to check if you've been allocated the item or not.
