I mean yes, they also help to mitigate climate change but the only reason we have to do so SO inefficiently is because those who can afford EVs and rooftop solar are politically powerful while those who can't are not.

"But EV credits help the environment." Do you know how much more efficient a carbon tax and dividend would be? EV tax credits (and solar panel tax credits) exist because the bourgeoisie want a tax break. Folks in poverty don't buy EVs and install rooftop solar panels. lol.

It's the same thing whenever people talk about closing tax "loopholes." You want to close the significant ones? Then you won't be deducting your mortgage interest from your taxes or $23k worth of 401k contributions or EV credits from taxable income anymore. Sorry.
