There's so much more I'd like to mention regarding each of their individual relationships with Lloyd, but being locked behind 300 character posts at a time is a painful thing to contend with. If you've made it this far, thank you so much for reading all of this.

And don't get me wrong, this is not because everyone revolves around Lloyd. It's the opposite, Lloyd can't help but involving himself with other people, because that's just who he is, and it's why I love him.

There's a parallel to be made here with Lloyd's relationship with Kratos vs. the relationship he has with Dirk, and the way each demonstrate their love for one another, but I think that would be more prevalent were I talking about Kratos himself, so I'll keep that for another time.

And I think Lloyd understood this, because in spite of the indefensible things his father did, he's still ready to accept him because, well, he's still family. Before their duel by the end of the game, Lloyd understands his father's demeanor, and knows that he had his best interests in mind.

I think one of his best parts is the way his humanity is portrayed, especially considering he's an ageless being. Even after betraying his son for what he thought was right thing to do, he still can't helping himself from keeping an eye on him because he still loves him so much.

And of course, we can't talk about Lloyd without mentioning his bond with Kratos, and the complicated relationship they endure. A big part obviously stems from Kratos' obstinence to hiding the truth away from Lloyd about who he is and what's going on in the world.

Even for characters like Regal and Raine, who are seen as the older, wiser characters of the group; they still see Lloyd as a youth that will usher in a bright future (even if they're both pretty young as well but what can you do).

Similarly to Colette, he's extremely supportive of Presea's right to live a life worth even if so much of it was robbed from her, forging a deep bond of mutual respect for one another.

While being Zelos' object of envy at the beginning (Lloyd appearing as a free spirit, unburdoned by societal responsibilities, the opposite of himself), he can't help but be swayed by his honesty, loyalty and his indomitable positive outlook of the world.

While his relationship with Sheena might not as individually apparent as the others, I see them as similar in spirit, and Lloyd shows himself more than willing to support her on multiple occasions, most notably when she has to face Kuchinawa and answer for Mizuho's failings when facing Volt.

He's Genis' closest companion, always facing the highest highs and lowest lows together, whether through hell and high water, and never once shaming him for being who he is.

He's Colette's emotional rock; the one that reminds her that her life is more than just having to be the Chosen and sacrificing herself for the good of the world.

The person he is at the beginning, and the person he is at the end seem extremely different, but on the inside, Lloyd is the same lovable goof he always was. This is not because of the maturity and charisma he gains during the game, but also the way he interacts and empathizes with the cast.

Even though he's the protagonist, it's never outright stated that he's the "leader" of the party, that role initially going to Collette for being the Chosen. But by the end of the game, I can't think of anyone else that would fit the role any more perfectly than Lloyd.

And this is a slow and organic process. It doesn't happen overnight; Lloyd's mind changes and shapes throughout his journey in both Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, meeting people he ordinarily never would've, interacting with different cultures and understanding the plight of the various factions at play.

His introspection and self-awareness reveals a surprising amount of depth to his character; it's not like he's someone who charges in headfirst, hits a brick wall, then just keeps trying until it breaks. He takes the time to think, and then tries to be better.

He has to learn to be a reliable and a dependable person. Along the way, he has to contend with forces he doesn't quite understand, and walls that seem insurmountable. But he always keep going.

His one-track attitude during the first part of the game got his entire village in danger (with him and his best friend banished as a result.); he wasn't able to help Collette when she needed him a number of times; among many others where nobody was in a position to bail him out.

In my eyes, Lloyd might just be my favorite interpretation of the archetype “Dumbass with a heart of gold” protagonist. He is not a perfect man by any stretch of the imagination, and it is undeniable that his rash judgements and ignorance/naivete got people in trouble dozens of times.

I always find it difficult to discuss protagonists because of how personal they are, how we relate to them in different ways than other characters because for all intents are purposes, we ARE them, and as such everyone has a different interpretation on how they act and how they approach life.
