Opinion: Aid cuts in US, UK, and beyond mean EU institutions must step up
As aid cuts from the U.S., U.K., and other European countries bite, European Union institutions must lead reform and fill the funding gap in global development.

Comment: With USAID in crisis, we need carbon markets to help fill the gap in climate finance
Development assistance programmes are confronting major setbacks, most recently with the tumultuous situation unfolding at USAID, where we’ve seen unprecedented moves from the new U.S. administration to pause most foreign aid programmes, with devastating consequences.

There is a high risk of EU fragmentation in response to a potential U.S.-EU trade war, especially if Trump picks different tariff rates for each of the bloc’s 27 member states, columnist Agathe Demarais writes.

Twenty years ago in Somalia, conflict, drought and government collapse threatened to plunge 200,000 people into famine. Out of it came the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a linchpin in today’s system for monitoring and alleviating hunger reut.rs/3ODhXTJ
A vast global system exists to prevent famine. It's failing.
The IPC is meant to sound alarms that direct food aid to crisis spots. But the watchdog struggles to operate in areas of conflict – the main driver of hunger.
