In Maeve Boothby O'Neill's coronial inquest (woman with ME died after repeatedly being denied nutrition in hospital), the drs involved defended their actions and refused to admit wrongdoing. Consequences? Much needed. Just knowing? They *knew* what they'd done and had no shame.

Any notion of Cochrane as the "gold standard" for scientific evidence has been well and truly disabused.

They should be investigating new evidence, not cancelling reviews. Open and transparent, not reframing old, subpar evidence as new and erasing the existence of anything else. For shame. (7/7)

This is profoundly harmful, disingenuous, and unscientific. As @exceedhergrasp1.bsky.social put it - "how can we trust their process and conclusions in the future?" (6/7)

We now know from Jamie of the IAG, @exceedhergrasp1.bsky.social reporting for @meactnet.bsky.social that not only did Cochrane cancel the new review, they erased all mention of it from their website.

They also labelled their 2019 review as dated 2024; despite no changes to its content. (5/7)

Todd Davenport @sunsopeningband.bsky.social of the Author team described this decision as "abusive...some profoundly fucked up shit".
"It’s clear Cochrane has flash-incinerated all remaining illusions of competence and goodwill". (4/7)

5 years later, several days before Xmas '24, Cochrane announced this updated review was cancelled "due to insufficient new research in the field and a lack of resources to oversee this work". The Author and IAG teams were left out in the cold. 5 years of work; dismissed. (3/7)

The backstory, as @davetuller1.bsky.social so eloquently put it, is that Cochrane released a flawed ME/GET review in 2019. Simultaneously, they announced it needed a "full update" and proposed a new review with an Author Team and Independent Advisory Group (IAG). (2/7)

Truly mind boggling that he's like, let's visit this fun new planet with no investigation whatsoever and T'Pol is played as the bad guy for wanting to ensure it's a safe atmosphere first. Let alone LETTING HIS DOG PISS on multiple alien environments.
