We had fantastic facilitators, and I think the group I was in made a difference to my outlook on the day. Not as afraid of the planning as I was before. Like the idea of the themes! Still v apprehensive of the 40%, I don’t think I can get excited about that! #edchatie

I was just looking at this and thinking the same! We should have a list of acronyms and try to avoid re using them in different contexts.

That’s fair! Haven’t used the podcast myself, but know of others that have. Different methods for different folks and all that. Good point about the burnout- but it could be argued that some are utilising AI to avoid that. #edchatie

Sorry- I’m one of these. My first #edchatie and got too excited about the topic & stuck in. I blame the caffeine in the cold & flu tabs I’m on 😂Will formally introduce myself next time! Thanks @john-hurley.bsky.social for facilitating an eye opening discussion.

Do you not think that the podcast might be a useful ‘extra’ resource for students to access outside of class time? It’s not a replacement for the teacher, but could be useful for students who want to revise/compound learning using a different means. #edchatie

From chatting to an Ag teacher there, the students send her the pdfs and she uploads. A better scenario than what was mentioned at our cluster day! #edchatie

You have to scan them in yourself?! A colleague worked in athlone scanning the papers in- it’s some set up! Would take them half the time it takes the class teacher to do it. #edchatie

I will say, the facilitator was absolutely lovely and really did try to engage with everyone, but there were far too many “what??” “Are they serious??” moments. Have 2 more subject specific ones coming up so will see if they’re the same! #edchatie

God be with the days of the physical booklets! If it truly is the plan they’re going to have to turn it around surely. #edchatie

I know! We “should check on their computer before they upload”, but it was brought up that they could upload a completely different file. We’ll have to be hovering behind them as they’re doing it one by one. #edchatie

We were told at our cluster day we can’t access the final file that the student uploads before we sign off on it. Surely that can’t be right or ethical? #edchatie

Haha brilliant! From what I remember the inspector just had our roll and called 2/3 names out when we had gathered to meet her. I swear I did the work! #edchatie

At the same time, the AAC is to be digitally completed, so we will be crying for more tech. It’s a catch-22. When they’ve easy access to AI it will be very tempting for a stressed LC student to utilise it. #edchatie

It’s very obvious at the SLAR the difference in project between those who use eg PowerPoint and those that are handwritten. Very tempting for a 14 year old to use AI when they’ve an easy opportunity to. Will need to come up with a dept policy on presentation. #edchatie

You’ve given me flashbacks from my own Ag Sci interview! It worked though. It’s a shame the piloted practical assessment was scrapped due to cost. #edchatie

All of my assignments are now handwritten. We’re not an iPad/device school but I’ve stopped booking computers for writing up projects. #edchatie

I started science CBA 1 with my gang 2 weeks ago, from what I observed, less than half did use ChatGPT to aid with idea generation. Problem lies when it’s used for the write up. 40% AAS is too much when there’s no guarantee it’s 100% the students own work. #edchatie

Will have to have another go at it so! The podcasts are a great idea. #edchatie
January 27, 2025 at 8:52 PM
That is very true! I There’s no escaping AI at this stage, I think I’m just frustrated at the lack of clear guidelines surrounding its use. It felt like a rushed job getting it all out. #edchatie

How are you finding Notebook LM? Tried it myself a few months ago and couldn’t get the hang of it. #edchatie

I wouldn’t call it being lazy! Just making effective use of your time. I’ve used the likes of Diffit to make age appropriate worksheets on articles that I would like students to analyse. It brings down the reading age and generates questions. AI is more than just chatGPT! #edchatoe

And that AI wouldn’t be able to generate meaningful analysis or reflections. I would worry about their stance on that! AI has progressed so much over the last year, where it’ll be this time next year there’s no telling. #edchatie
