I've grown extremely fond of Daggerheart's 2d12 hope/fear system. Doubles are a crit so even if you roll snake eyes the table cheers in excitement. You can still have a bad luck streak and even success with the fear die rolling higher can have consequences depending on the scene but over all its fun
