There seems to be no political will, in either of our two countries (UK/Aus) to build housing for people on low incomes at scale, despite the fact this would go a long way to solving the housing crisis. I have no idea how this situation may be reversed. Last time it took two world wars (?)

But do you want them tearing down the Waterloo four face clock in favour of that thing? If they haven't already! I dread to think.

Such a rarity these days, especially with the unfortunate launch of what I regard as the horrible new Network Rail digital model I won't post a photo of.

Obviously at that size it has to be about a metre away from your face but it's more comfortable than having a smaller screen up close and peering into it.

Prices have been dropping on high res screens at roughly the same rate I've needed to upgrade them, so if somebody reading this buys one then disagrees they have a perfectly good 4k TV on their hands without having wasted much money. I would not be recommending this route if they cost £1000

🤷‍♂️ Set eye level at 1/3 down from top then no neck cramps. Adjust seat height. I've tried bigger screens but too big. 43" works about right for large fonts, and if you invert the contrast to white text on black it doesn't glare.

A new analogue clock! In 2025! I'm impressed. 🕒

I feel the need to mention the acoustic screens for those unaquainted with the area. They are effective at blanketing the traffic noise from the Eastway

I remember that the bosses in big cars were few and far between. I don't remember a cohort of the very rich as we have now, and yes to the racism, sexism, and homophobia, that all existed looking back, but despite that (and the smoking everywhere) it was a more equal period and more pleasant

It helps a lot, but you have to do it a few days running. The upside down thing requires special boots and a frame but I haven't tried that. The hanging off a ladder thing makes the difference between not being able to walk, and being able to.

43" TV as monitor? Under £200 these days

Contacts?

Find a vertical ladder and hang off a high rung for as long as your hands can stand it. It stretches the spine and may help. Apparently hanging like a bat helps too but that's more difficult to arrange

That's not pathetic, it's practical. The next step is to copy the text from the pdf and save as html because html will reconfigure on the page as you enlarge the font, whereas pdf text just disappears off the side

You only had to live and work through the '70s, for good and bad, to know the difference. The '70s were friendlier on the street, mostly.

My fifty year old equivalent would have been buying a few nails in a hardware store only to have a man in a brown coat run after you along the street shouting "How was your purchase today?" - "Would you recommend our nails to your friends and family?" - "How would you rate us on a scale of 1 to 10?"

One day you may be glad of xcalib -i -a (Linux) other commands are available - it inverts the screen colours. I have found Firefox more flexible on adaptation than Chrome which is a nightmare to navigate for "accessibilty"

It's @35percent_EAN I'm thinking of (on the other side)

"Only in Ireland" Sadly not. I can find examples in South London of new blocks of flats left empty for some years for want of minor maintenance issues or lack of will to complete. It's a story that resonates

it follows that students who can, remain at home and are day visitors but they miss out on the collegiate life, to the extent that still exists.

🤷‍♂️ The system is broken. What happened to halls on campus and Uni's building their own blocks? I take it that all stopped twenty years ago
