This week’s we’re GETTING THE GARLIC IN THE GROUND before the rain!!!

They say garlic is the holiday vegetable going in at Halloween (a little later for us), getting weeded and side-dressed at Valentine’s Day and harvested at the 4th of July.

Another successful intensive Living Soils Workshop. This weekend we’ll have a Home Farmer Workshop. Growing food, growing farmers, growing soil, growing resilience is all we can do to stay sane in these crazy times. #resilience #livingsoil #regenerativefarming #regeneration #sonomacounty

It’s #InternationalWomensDay and we want to honor the women who over the past year have made this farm rock! Around the world women are responsible for tremendous tending of our Mother Earth, growing food, life and resilience. Not pictured: Lisa, Annalisa, Alice and Sharon. #regenerativeagriculture

2nd round of winter cover crop termination happening today with no soil disturbance! These fields usually flood in the winter and so have fewer rounds of veggies through the year and we cannot grow veggies down here in the winter.

Happy March! We have hit busy season! We have new crew in, old crew coming back after winter vacations, we’re planting like crazy (first cauliflower/lettuce intercrops went in yesterday), weeding today, seeding, putting on workshops, growing our CSA, and excited for the year ahead! #regenerative

#climatesolutions in the agriculture sector includes #notillfarming -reducing the fossil fuel consumption on the farms, retains topsoil & decreases water loss. Article from @washingtonpost.com takes a nice look at this #regenerativeagriculture solution. Less fossil fuels is better for our #health
Opinion | After 10,000 years, let’s bury the plow
No-till farming reduces need for fertilizers and pesticides, and promotes soil health and biodiversity.

Spring Flowers are coming!
It’s hard that Valentine’s Day is in the season of so few flowers. Anemone are the only ones out but soon tulips, narcissus, ranunculus and so much more!! Learn about our Flower CSA in bio.

Atmospheric River! Yesterday our bottom fields flooded, and by this morning it had all receded and we had sun. We plant cover crops in this flood zone as we cannot grow food crops and to feed and hold the soil. Winter photosynthesis builds up soil biology!

It’s Tomato seeding day!! 🍅 and Cucumbers too!! 🥒
Always a big day on the farm as we thinking about our summer crops even in the midst of winter storms.
In past years we’ve started tomatoes as early as last week of December but we’ve found they just don’t do any better. So we keep pushing them back.

Only our Great White Egret friend (hunting rodents and frogs) on the farm this rainy day.

Last week we exited the Persephone Period. 🎉 The Persephone Period is when there are fewer than 10 hrs of sunlight/day which means mist veggies cannot photosynthesize enough for much growth and development.

It’s lettuce planting time for early spring here in Northern California! The past 3 weeks have had warm days and freezing nights so these babies get tucked in after water. We’re excited about this new speckled Little Gem variety. #regenerative #regenerativefarming #yearroundfarming #marketfarming
