Seattle DSA/DSA NEC Steering

As a member of Seattle DSA, this is a completely reasonable approach. DSA isn’t The Stranger. It doesn’t put out a long list of endorsements for every office. Being a DSA-endorsed candidate is a two-way street and rightfully has a high bar.

If you’re a convention delegate I hope you’ll vote yes on TDFE! 🌹

Towards Deliberative Federal Endorsements
DSA needs a new federal endorsement process. Here's why you should vote yes on CR05-A03: Towards Deliberative Federal Endorsements.

And finally how does this relate to 1M1V for federal endorsements?

TDFE doesn’t skip steps and is grounded in practical organizing lessons we’ve learned locally making it a stronger endorsement process end to end. 💪

After all, democracy takes time!⏳

TDFE isn’t a reinvention of the wheel. It takes direct inspiration from the organizing principles laid out by NYC DSA in their public rationale for their rigorous endorsement process 📝

Deliberative processes build buy in and capacity.

TDFE more deeply connects not just NPC, but NEC SC and crucially NEC rank and file to the endorsement process.

These are layers of national DSA we have to engage to build electoral infrastructure 🏗️

It’s not sustainable for us to paper endorse federal candidates anymore. The stakes and spotlight on our federal endorsements are too high.

We need to build real, meaningful relationships with our federal candidates and electeds. TDFE offers a starting point to do just that 🤝

TDFE amends the National Electoral Commission’s (NEC) consensus resolution to require several new, but familiar steps into our federal endorsement process 🌹

Also recommend checking out the whereas clauses and the summary. We still maintain an exemption at NPC’s discretion as we do for any updated endorsement criteria. Will have a longer form rationale out at some point too!
