@warlordguymer.bsky.social brings the 1st legion to glorious life as a tech-savvy murder machine whose compartmentalized efficiency and layered complexity only serves to make their eventual fall all the more tragic

nothing like dropping a shakespeare quote into your book and having google drive underline the fuck out of it for grammar issues

woven through its orgiastic tapestry of debauchery and violence lies a very relevant lament for human society; every ‘great state’ is built upon the backs of slaves, and there is no justice, only the solace and comfort of those we love (also, there’s boobs, dick & gory death in every single ep)

worldbuilder extraordinaire @bencounter.bsky.social takes us on a neatly symmetrical tour of another of his signature mind-bending daemon-infested hellscapes. Counter has a very inviting and fantasy-tinged take on Chaos that i really dig, and the easy camaraderie of his space marines is infectious

can’t even remember what Biden looks like tbh. when i try to picture him my brain just pulls up james rebhorn instead

so: whose voice do you hear in your head when you read 40k codexes?

still amazed by how neatly this ties things together while also bringing fresh stuff to the mix. i’ve read many ham-handed hack job prequels sloppily checkmarking fan service references, but Valdor does everything right, bringing plenty of Wraight’s signature warmth, humanity and ear for dialogue

if A&A counts, then so does this! both are kinda clunky and drawn-out by today’s standards, but man were they good gateways into bigger better things

re-reading this as i wait for the new #30k and floored by how incredible @johnfrench.bsky.social is. if there’s one writer who manages to fully realize 30k’s potential as a setting, it’s him. vivid, powerful prose, atmospheric and cinematic in its impact, military SF on par with Haldeman & Heinlein

is… is one of them giving me the finger? 😂 anyway here’s my gang to show you some solidarity. us vicious torturers gotta stick together amirite? the legion that flays together, stays together

echoes of Dan Abnett and Matt Farrer abound in Zou’s hyperdetailed celebration of colonial-era military grit. the imperium is ultimately a force for the good here, with dashing heroes policing internecine greed and deviance even as the barbarous archenemy pounds at the gates #blacklibrary

the wip must flow! i was weirdly underwhelmed by the cataphractii sculpts after gluing them together, but as is so often the case, their real beauty starts to emerge once the paint gets on there

Rynn’s World turns up the methodical dread, highlighting humanity’s uneasy relationship with the bio-engineered posthumans that protect them. as in Steve Parker’s earlier Gunheads and Rebel Winter, the orks are the foil, their gleeful cruelty a stark contrast to the Imperium’s calculated sacrifices.

its builders didn’t intend it to move, but i used to love watching this thing go sliding down at the end

this book fkn rocks! Dunn’s planet-spanning epic is like LOTR on tank treads and steroids, with even-larger-than-larger-than-life heroes butchering their way through daemon-infested jungles and dropping more than their fair share of action movie one-liners. #blacklibrary

this book fkn rocks! @jmswallow.bsky.social loves to slip real-world science into 40k, giving his stuff a more cyberpunk vibe, but also loves epic blockbuster showdowns and action-movie set pieces 💥 his books are both cerebral and heartfelt, and closer to true classic sci-fi than any other 40k imo

this book fkn rocks! @nickkyme.bsky.social is an underrated heavy in the 40k pantheon; always brings inventive action, bold characters and prose finely balanced between smooth and stark. every Kyme ive read is an all-around winner full of guts and glory. this early gem is no exception #blacklibrary

wip for the wip gods! just worked on this bad boy yesterday after a very long break. almost destroyed the helmet initially with some poor drybrush choices, but think i managed to rescue it

a masterwork of mood filmmaking, all the more fascinating for its troubled history. early 90s gothic gloom-fest, beautifully shot and exceptionally scored; a still-relevant critique of corporatism, religion and the prison system. unrelentingly grim and nihilistic, yet somehow also fun and funny
