another thing to note btw is that you can sometimes design things in weird orientations to get away with certain things, like you can do a 90° overhang if you print the entire thing at a 45° angle because then the overhang is 45° as far as the printer is concerned

generally in holes you can solve that by making the bottom a cone rather than flat; overhangs are generally fine

almost everything i design has at most 45° overhangs, and if i need substantial bridging i tend to make things from two parts bolted or epoxied together

fair enough, i pretty much exclusively use PETG since it's about the same price here, and can be printed at similar speeds

only downside is that PETG *sucks* at bridging

wait why would PETG take longer? at least on my printer i can run both that and PLA at similar speeds (~75-100mm/s usually, could probably do faster but i cba to tune it bette)

anyway i doubt you'll need anything more than standard PETG, if you design things well it's very strong

the main difference to AUR there is that cloning the repo gets you a copy of xbps-src to build stuff, and *all* the packages; what would be needed for an AUR-like experience would be shipping xbps-src and a script to automatically download specific individual templates
January 8, 2026 at 10:02 PM
in fact somewhat amusingly "restricted" packages, so mostly nonfree binary stuff like Discord that isn't distributed by default, are already handled like that; void-linux/void-packages on Github is essentially all the templates for void repos, including restricted ones

that's the biggest weakness over Arch tbh; Void doesn't like to package browser forks and custom kernels due to the build system load

the system is there for an AUR-like though, xbps templates are really good and comparable to PKGBUILDs, but there's no centralised repository
