A place to share the little imaginary stories I make up about my virtual barbies
It was quieter upstairs anyway.

Frustrated by her family's lack of support in her educational pursuits, Margaret excused herself to the bedroom to continue her reading.
December 11, 2025 at 1:46 AM
Margaret: "The *point* is to learn new things. Am I not allowed to educate myself?"

Joan: "You just like feeling better than the rest of us."
December 11, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Estrid: "Dear, don't you think you have better ways to use your time? I don't know what you hope to achieve with this. The man you marry won't care if you can read."

Margaret: "...I'm not doing it for a man. I'm doing it for me."

Joan: "But what's the point?"
December 11, 2025 at 1:44 AM
Back downstairs, trouble is brewing as Estrid notices Margaret practicing her reading.
December 11, 2025 at 1:42 AM
William: "My music hasn't gotten us anywhere. I don't even have my own instrument. How am I supposed to-"

Isobel: "Hush. You have the talent and the drive. That's what matters, we'll figure out the rest. I love that you want to follow your dreams."

William: "And I love you."
December 11, 2025 at 1:34 AM
William: "Am I a failure? Have I let you down, not taking up blacksmithing like my father?"

Isobel: "What? Of course not. Why are you talking like this?"
December 11, 2025 at 1:31 AM
The storm blows on.
December 11, 2025 at 1:27 AM
Richard: "You need to get your act together, son. Stop living in your own head and help to provide for this family."

And outside Richard went, into the blizzard to do just that.
December 11, 2025 at 1:25 AM
Upstairs, Richard finds William sitting around daydreaming.

Richard: "What do you think you're doing!? You're going to let your wife sit downstairs and starve while you sit here doing nothing?"

William: "Huh?!"
December 11, 2025 at 1:24 AM
Joan: "Not yet, but don't worry. He will. That is... assuming I don't find someone better first."

Isobel: *concern*
December 11, 2025 at 1:22 AM
Estrid: "Have you still been talking to the Everson's boy?"

Joan: "Kendrick? Yes mama."

Estrid: "Hm. His family isn't very wealthy but he'd make a good match for you. Has he spoken yet of marriage?"

*Margaret totally not eavesdropping in the next room*

I forgot to take screenshots of the rolls, but I did roll for Richard and Estrid at the start of the challenge and they both rolled a success! No deaths to start with 🤓
December 11, 2025 at 1:08 AM
Richard: "Where is William? He should be working with me."

Estrid: "How should I know?"

Richard: *sigh* "I'll go find him."
December 11, 2025 at 1:07 AM
While Joan dreams about mystery men, Estrid has a more realistic view of their predicament. The storm has halted all of their work, and without their work... the family will go hungry.

Estrid: "I know it's bad outside, but we need you to work the forge, Richard. The fire will keep you warm."
December 11, 2025 at 1:03 AM
With a terrible blizzard raging outside, the family has hunkered down by the fire trying to stay warm.

Joan: "Do you think a handsome man might get trapped in the storm and have to stay with us?"

Isobel: "For their sake and ours, let's hope not."

If you're paying attention you may have noticed that - yes - it's winter! Which means we're starting on hard mode. And the family is really feeling it...

How many days in a row have we had gruel now?

Isobel: "Too many -_-"

Here's the starting home! This was taken from the gallery and modified by me (I'll share the original build later when I'm on my PC).

Historically, two-story buildings wouldn't have been the norm for a serf family butttt we're bending the rules a little because I liked the look of it 😂

Estrid is the mother of three free-spirited children. She has always worked hard for her family and never got the fairy-tale ending that she hoped for as a young woman.

She lives vicariously through Joan, who reminds her of herself. Meanwhile, her relationship with Margaret is strained.
December 7, 2025 at 1:53 AM
The parents! Richard Ashdown is the house patriarch and is a stern but loyal man. He disapproves of William's goals and hopes for his son to take up his trade of blacksmithing.

He has a distant relationship with every member of the family, but he is the first to arrive in times of strife.
December 7, 2025 at 1:50 AM
Joan is the littlest sister. She also plans to climb the ranks, though her methods are a bit different. Joan dreams of marrying rich and has been working hard to make herself into a desirable future wife. Her self-absorbed trait miiight get in the way of that.

She's also a lovebug 💘
December 7, 2025 at 1:48 AM
Margaret is the middle sister. Though she's still a teen, she already has big plans to prove herself capable and climb her way out of serfdome.

She has been teaching herself to read and write, and also hopes to learn to play an instrument one day if the family can ever afford it.
December 7, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Next in line is Isobel, William's darling wife. Isobel is family-oriented and has dreamt of being a mother since she was a child herself. She wants a huge family.

She has a wholesome relationship with William and supports his dreams -- for now.
December 7, 2025 at 1:43 AM
Meet William Ashdown, our heir! William is very gifted in music and has big dreams of becoming an entertainer for nobility. But...he needs to save enough simoleons to buy an instrument before that dream can come anywhere close to reality 💀

Can music support his family? He's avoiding that question.
