Railway and Industrial Historian, especially the sailcloth, twine and netting industry of S Somerset and W Dorset.
Good decision; I walked from the Bus Station at Consett to see Hownes Gill viaduct from the ground before setting off on the walk proper.
The engine from the old Weatherhill engine house is at the NRM

That is a shame, the Waskerley Way is an excellent walk.Sadly the Moorhen at Waskerley is long gone. It was a good refuelling stop when I did the walk some time ago

The Somerset HER is exemplary, an excellent resource when I was researching the sailcloth industry of South Somerset. I wish the adjacent counties would provide a similar online experience

The concrete platform came from Cattistock halt when that closed, with Thornford getting the other one. These replaced the wooden platforms previously in use.
Likewise the concrete footbridge at Maiden Newton came from Crewkerne

I am amazed just how much Hamstone you see in the buildings around here considering it all comes from just that one hill!

I would agree. Last week a car crashed into a pole carrying the internet cable for much of Beaminster. It took four days to restore the services.

There is both mobile phone and 4G signal available in Beaminster today, from where I am posting this! I do not know if the landline internet is back yet.

We now have the privilege once more of being serenaded nightly by his hoots from the nest he shares with his mate in the oak tree outside our house. One of the most surreal yet worthwhile commitments I’ve ever made.

If this folklore malarky ever falls through, I think I might have found my calling…
