There are games so much better than Alpha Protocol but no game does what Alpha Protocol does.

I mean duh, people are different and don't like the same stuff🤷‍♀️

And also like, what if the game is underrated or has a shitty trailer. Then you miss out on a hidden gem. Reviewers are very useful if you understand how to use them. You have to take everything everyone says with a grain of salt.

I mean if I could not have all the experience I gained after playing fallout 3 then sure. But like that game feels so old and clunky nowdays. Like you can't even aim down the sights in a fps game basically😭
March 11, 2025 at 9:33 AM
Yeah and to save money and time cuz games are expensive and long nowdays.

A reviewer is not there to be someone that's always right and everyone needs to listen to. It's just there to give you their perspective on the game.

And ofc I don't always agree with everything each of them has to say but with all that context I can decide if I want to try something or not.

Like I always have a couple youtubers I listen to for modern and then a couple for retro games. Example: Gameranx and Stephanie Sterling for modern stuff and MetalJesusRocks and HappyConsoleGamer for retro and then there's also Mr.MattyPlays for both retro and modern.

I understand that but then you find someone new. And also it's good having multiple viewpoints and listening to multiple reviewers. And even then being like oh he said he didn't like that but I usually like that so I might try it etc.

It's like saying every call of duty is a 10/10. Sure it's a fun game but it's the same as every other shooter before it. It doesn't inovate, it doesn't bring anything new to the table. Something that's not inovative can be rated high yes but then it needs to be the best of the best.
March 11, 2025 at 8:56 AM
Yeah, to you. That's what I'm saying. To that reviewer that's not enough same as it's not enough for me.
March 11, 2025 at 8:50 AM
Yes because fun for me is simple. A lot of things are fun, but if there's no thought process behind it it doesn't hold much worth to me. Like all marvel and fast and furious movies are made in the same stencil. You have a form that that movie fills and that's it, there's nothing more to it.
March 11, 2025 at 8:49 AM
What people don't get about reviewers is the fact that you need to find a reviewer that thinks like you. That has the same tastes like you. And then you can enjoy their recommendations and their critiques will have value to you. Because it's difficult to be objective and everyone has their opinions.

I personally rly enjoy marvel and fast and furious movies. Infact I watch most marvel movies in the cinemas cuz they're simple fun. But at the same time most of the marvel movies are rated at a 2/5 for me because they simply don't deserve to be rated higher.
March 11, 2025 at 8:25 AM
So you can't give everything the highest rating because then youre diluting the worth of that rating. The highest rating is there only for the best of the best. And also there is the aspect of what your critique for something being good is. A movie or a game being fun is not enough for me.
March 11, 2025 at 8:24 AM
I see your point but I as a 23 year old gamer still don't think I have ever experienced a 10/10 game. It all comes down to how you grade stuff in your mind. To me stuff with the same ranking has to be of equal quality. On letterboxd I have over 300 movies ranked and only 5 of them are 5/5 for me.
