We had ‘dinner tickets’ at my secondary school (1989-1993). Once a week we had to leave our morning tutor group and stand in a line to receive a week’s worth. At lunch times we had to give the dinner ladies our daily dinner ticket, which was worth £1.10, in the same queue as those paying cash.
