Grown up spooky kid reminding you that it is not, in fact, a phase.

Horror, video games, books, photography, bad attitudes, bike rides, hydration, and murder....s of crows.

I'll stream again one day. Maybe.
Eyes up, chat.

Found a place for the petals from the #SleepToken concert to live that wouldn't just be gathering dust.

Wonder what other folks are doing with them.

26. Ancillary Justice

A somewhat disorienting space opera told from the POV of a warship AI used to inhabiting hundreds of bodies at once(see: corpse soldiers) coping with the loss of all but one body.
Political intrigue that feels Dune, but not as wormy. Everyone is she(not everyone is she).

14-25. Vampire Hunter D

A pulp horror series with 50+ vols and art by Yoshitaka Amano. I restart this series every few years thinking I'll catch up. I won't.
Post-apocalyptic scifi+western frontier setting feat. monsters, cyborg horses, vampires and more. Gothic X-Files monster of the week vibes

13. The Girl With All the Gifts

This seemed like it would be cool but ended up feeling like a prequel to Matheson's "I am Legend". It's not bad but I feel like I've read this story quite a few times before, and not just because it constantly references greek mythology.

12. Gideon the Ninth

It took me so many tries for this one to click, but it finally did. The combo of a very slow start and being dropped into the story with no context were eventually offset by the "And Then There Were None" sort of mystery that came later. Then I was all in.

11. Ninth House

This one is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. It's a very dark sometimes heavy read (trigger warnings abound), an atmospheric whodunnit, and a slowburn look at how power, privilege, and circumstance shape lives. I also love a protag who is not good at anything by default

10. Never Whistle at Night

I wasn't the target audience for some of these stories and that's a-okay. I can appreciate the story telling without having the cultural ties that make things spooky.

9. Voice Like a Hyacinth

Dark and sapphic with a healthy dose of codependent, obsessive, and toxic dynamics between friends. The concept was interesting but this might have benefited from being a novella.

That or maybe artist name dropping and the lyrical prose of dark academia isn't for me.

8. We Used to Live Here

I'm a sucker for gothic horror and this really did not disappoint. It's atmospheric, the pacing keeps you turning the page, you're not quite sure what to believe, and it hits the classic horror tropes without being infuriating. Very light House of Leaves vibes.

2-7 The Murderbot Diaries Books 1-6 By Martha Wells

With the AppleTV series out I got caught up on a few of the books I hadn't read and gave the ones I had a reread. These are quick, fun, and can feel really, sometimes strangely, relatable if you fall onto the spectrum of neurodivergence.

Copying the thread of books content I've seen.

1. I've been reading more during my bus commute and finished this one today. It was ok, but felt like baby's first cosmic horror. Everything interesting could have been expanded on in some way to make it feel like more but instead it felt... hollow. 📚💙

If you can't hear Sarah McLachlan while looking at this picture of my cat on the way to the vet you may need a visit to the optometrist and possibly an ENT.

I keep going back to this review in my mind. This review of Wicked... A movie based on a Broadway musical (that is the la croix of the book).

What musicals has this person seen with "only a few songs"? What counts as only a few songs? Are Disney films all musicals? So many questions.

Diane, 6:04pm, February 25th. Entering the town of Twin Peaks.

Arrived a day late but it's time to get weird again folks.

Also this packaging is the worst (21 discs in a single case). Who does that?

Time to buy some blanks and design some new inserts.

They say that pets take on the personalities of their owners.

I think Lulu's love of Dungeons and Drag Queens is very reflective of that.
