A HACKNEY HORSE can indeed TRT4EVR.

I COULD NOT have done this w/o Layne Bownds Lewis and Sally Brogan Tarbet! organizers and volunteers!

Carriage driving is a multi-layered activity that requires a tremendous amount of preparation and review to be done safely. We started Tuxedo last year, and after a good start, sent him home for a break.

Not much feels better than when horse students come back and still remember their education!

First trot on this young mare, Arabian/Quarter horse cross. Keeping their education as understandable and stress free as possible sets them up better for their future

When working with a horse, especially a young or green horse, observing what exactly could be causing anxiety is important. It is equally important to accurately perceive when they are becoming less anxious and ready to learn.

Why, 40 years later, do i love the first ride on a young horse? Because i don't make it happen. I ask if we can do this together. The horse allowing me to be the first person to crawl up on their back means so much to me. Their generosity and trust are a gift.

Here is Caleb (SD Blue Mountain Ashbrook) 4 year old Lippitt Morgan gelding under saddle today. Intern Taylor has been assigned to ride him. Since he is splitting time between riding and driving, he's had about 60 days in each.

Hackney Horse Willow Grove Kaleidoscope on the marathon at the Inavale CDE. I purposely eliminated in one of the obstacles that really scared her but continued through the entire course. It was a great experience for both of us to gain confidence!

Hilde, 2 year old Highland Pony mare. This is only for gentling purposes, for the young horse to feel and see me above and behind them with legs on either side. A few minutes, and I swing off! This is one of my favorite moments: when they trust me enough to allow me to sit upon them!

Trying something new for horse and rider is a great way to expand your nervous systems! On the left is Highland Pony, Bonny. On the right is Hackney Horse, Lida.

We are devastated by the loss of our one beloved Hackney Horse broodmare to colic. She leaves behind our 6 year old mare, Willow Grove Kaleidoscope and her 5 week old colt, Willow Grove Kopernicus. With 150 Hackney Horses left in the US, this is a great loss for us and for the breed.

Welcome Hilde's Breagha Neart of Trinity Glen, a 2 year Highland Pony mare. We are adding her to our conservation program for Hackneys and Highlands, two critically endangered breeds #highlandpony #highlandponies #hackneyhorse #hackneyhorses

My beloved Highland Pony, Mackenzie Lane Bonny! Highland Ponies are critically endangered; 12 foals were registered in the USA last year. Willow Grove is working to promote the strength and charm of this historic breed.

Stay tuned for more Highland happenings coming up!

Hackney Horse colt Willow Grove Kopernicus arrived early but all seems well! The Hackney Horse is critically endangered worldwide. Single digits are usually registered each year. So this guy is really special!

History's first and best carriage driving horse: the Hackney. Breeds have come later drawing from their genetic heritage leaving the original critically endangered. Willow Grove works tirelessly to breed, train and promote select Hackney Horses!

This is Caleb, 4 year old Lippitt Morgan gelding going through the preparation for carriage driving. I introduce one element at a time and make sure he has received it without fear or concern before I add another and so on.

Zoey is doing wondefully in carriage driving! I'm really glad to have carriage dog Jack along to supervise! It takes vast amounts of time and attention to detail to educate and prepare a horse for carriage driving. Failing to do so can land you in the hospital.
