Ah yes, the profound intimacy of my mother casually handing my older sister's training bra that she had outgrown to me and informed me that this was my life now, and I demanded what I'd done to deserve this treatment.

Man do I ever feel this in my bones. Joined in classic, raced to catch up with my friends when BC came out, joined a 'casual' raid guild that raised 3 days a week. Loved my offbeat role as boomkin backing up dps and healing. I could never go back, but god do I miss the joy of it.

I'll second this, entirely. Especially given the Japanese cultural (and historical) mindset at the time and our own poor understanding of how to face an enemy like that.

I remember reading about unit 731 for the first time as an adult, and after the stories I heard in papua new guinea about the japanese I was horribly unsurprised. I can see both sides of the argument about dropping the bombs & we won't ever know if there was another way, but at least it worked.

Part of my childhood was spent in the south Pacific. I heard locals stories from elders about the japanese and how much they hated them, how they were treated by the Japanese compared to the Australians and americans. Utterly brutal occupations.

When a man told me at the end of a date that I had the broadest vocabulary of anyone he knew (and said so with absolutely delight), I thought I might marry him. (Spoiler: I did, and have no regrets)
