I'm actually curious about this, which bits were referenced? I originally experienced CE through the gearbox version but did play the MCC edition much later and noticed the improvements right off the bat but didn't notice too many differences that I could see being treated as intentional

Hearing your opinion on SH2R I can't help but think you'd love Silent Hill F. It is UE5 but its wonderfully written, doesn't shoot for generic realistic gfx and its a pretty bold experimental title.

Sadly user reviews punished it for that where 2R was rewarded for being safe and palatable.
