The relative cost of utterly destroying cities (1945 dollars): Hiroshima, $13.2 billion (atom bomb); Tokyo: $83,000 (napalm incendiaries). Simple economics makes the use of the atom bombs then even less justifiable. And makes our unilateral abandonment of them today even more noble a possibility.
