I couldn’t believe how noisy these birds were. No respect for their human neighbours.

Nice to read about Hearts’ empathetic win. Would’ve made all the difference for Dundee.

Fireworks Night, but the weather in Inverness had other thoughts. This is as good as it got up the hill.

It’s dark as I walk home from work, so I was glad to get some (surprisingly warm and bright) sunshine on a break earlier.

A joyously boring day, which was very much needed. Watched some Andor. Did some washing. Cooked some food. Had a beer. Je via sano. 🍺

I just absolutely love the Dutch word for “amount”: “hoeveelheid” is literally “how-much-ness”. It’s even more logical here than Esperanto (albeit “kiomeco” would probably be understood fine to mean “kvanto”).

It’s Friday! Not had a beer for a long time. Apart from all those I had in Belgium last week.

Dinner this evening. Very chuffed, though possibly a little too much rice and could’ve made more bbq sauce.

Some chores in town this morning. Hopefully the revamp of the castle will finish soon.

The Northern Lights are out over Inverness! Not so clear to the naked eye but came out better on my phone long exposure. I was alerted by a friend up north who sent some stunning ones. So I guess if you’re out of the city look north!

Much as I loved all the food and drink in Belgium, it’s good to get home and eat some veg (ok and some chicken).

A day in Amsterdam to wrap up the holiday. So the obligatory canal photo.

The journey home. Cheerio Ghent. It’s been a lot of fun. And hello (again) briefly Antwerp Centraal station, which is stunning on (ahem) so many levels.

And I definitely didn’t have massively sweaty palms and jelly legs as I took this photo from the top of the bell tower and I’ll definitely not have nightmares for about the next decade.

After all that intense effort, I clearly deserved a gorgeous 11% Trappist beer. Near where are staying is an ordinary neighbourhood supermarket but it has a very, very good beer selection. One more full day of touristing (and my inane skeets about it) to come.

Thence to the contemporary art museum. Less my thing but here’s lunch and some modern commentary on Ukraine. Plus a view out of the window to an empty exhibition space.

One Scottish connection that I could find: this painting by William Gouw Ferguson, who I’d never heard of. Though that’s not a slight on him - him and me are equal as he’d never heard of me. His Wikipedia page is helpful as an explanation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William...

Today’s been a museum day: Ghent’s fine art and contemporary art museums. Both very good. A couple (ok four) standouts of the former. Banter in the alts.
