“Sinners”… take me back to the church of cinema.

Balance is key. Two separate films, complimenting and completing each other, in order to tell a full story.

Ryan Coogler and his team knocked this one out of the park. The messaging both subtle and overt.
The cast was perfect.
Top, top, film.

The Substance.

Wow.

The film was both entirely unfamiliar and felt like an homage to everything I’ve ever seen.

Poor Things (2023)

Just wow… I don’t know if this film will go down as an all-time favorite. But 👏👏 for bringing some creativity to American cinema. Personally I’ve been whining about the lack of vision and art in films recently. Poor Things felt like it came from a different decade but fresh AF!

The Seventh Seal isn’t an hour and a half of Max Von Sydow playing chess with Death????

The Devils (1971)

There are so many aspects of this film that can be said and has been said.

It’s such a (rightfully) angry film about those who abuse their power, that unfortunately, still rings true today.

Hard watch but so well done. Ken Russell you brilliant bastard.

And therein lies my gripe with the word “booby trap”.

The word itself is a trap!

Shin Godzilla (2016)
Obviously late to this party but I’m blown away by this film. It’s hard to care about anything other than the monster in Kaiju films but Hideaki Anno absolutely knocked it out of the park. Literally evolving the monster beyond imagination.

Finally signed up for the Criterion Channel and I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to willingly hand over money for subscription of anything.

FILMS FOR DAYS!!

Especially since I caught “Phantom of the Paradise” (1974) last night. So. Fucking. Good.

That Bill Finley ballad is a banger!

Maybe last night felt particularly spooky, but…

The Boogeyman(2023) was pretty scary.

Did I miss the hype train for the film? Was one even scheduled?
Did everyone just wait for it to hit streaming services like me??
