Well, I would not rule that out. The time was pretty good, and he is too judged on this. And, yes, the way he travelled was eye-catching.

But beating Quinault (even on one of his "going days") by 1.5 lengths suggests even 117 may flatter him a bit (race standard 116, prior-ratings even less).

Also, that people want their cake and to eat it - want 1st-rate services but anyone other than them to pay for it - in a way that wasn’t the case until 10/15 years ago.
