This animal is called an Echidna. I've seen them in the wild a few times and photographed this one this week.
It's native to Australia, about the size of medium dog and is extraordinary because it's one of only two mammals in the WORLD to lay eggs.

This is HMAS Cerberus, a warship from the 1800s, sunk off the Melbourne suburb of Black Rock in the 1930s. There is a campaign to preserve it, but it's probably too far gone.
