And let this be a reminder that the best teams in the planet can get caught offguard by issues.

In 2021, ALL of Meta (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger) went fully down for 6 hours.

Not partial degradation, like today on Amazon... fullly down

IMO there's a strong case in UK for a universal, secure & easy method to prove name/address digitally. All paper methods, other than passports, are weak & not auser friendly. Whether it's linked to passport or identity card (though I've never understood diff) or something new doesn't matter to me

On the plus side Piet you can usually playback at 2x - I've even got a JS hack that runs YouTube at 3x which is just about sustainable if you reaalllly focus

Last-minute turnaround, as reported by Forbes

CVE or MITRE *really* needs to get funding elsewhere than the US government, to ensure stability, after this incident tho...

This could have been very very bad www.forbes.com/sites/kateof...

When I last looked into this I concluded there was nothing generic that was totally predictable - even .local had assumptions by some devices. So I've always gone for a subdomain of one I own.

Didn't take long then. Just bask in the luxury of a timeline which isn't full of spam... yet...

ODA - nice! 👍

They should put a "switch back to classic" button at the top of the new one ASAP & then start measuring how long users stay in new before clicking it - same as Microsoft did with "new Outlook"

I'm not against the spirit of some of what Oracle is trying to do, such as groups for making SRs private from teams that don't need to see them, but you wonder if they realise exactly how vital MOS is to some people's work

I've had exactly the same discussions with a customer's Oracle team. I'm assuming all customers were inflicted with this in one go - why didn't they do some A/B testing?

That’s why we don’t build infrastructure prematurely. Shipping crap as infrastructure is the quickest way to destroy a large company especially if you enforce the said infrastructure is in the critical path for wide use as the only option.

Yes, had my finger poised over an M3 MBP a year ago but still can't bring myself to pay the premium. Lovely hardware though.

Have never run db in WSL2 but like the idea. To make it a bit more spicy though I've got my eye on a new Snapdragon ThinkPad, so let's see... WSL2 presumably works (Surface has Snap), then would need OL/RHEL on ARM, then a 23ai ARM RPM - not much to go wrong there 🤔

That's impressive. WSL2 with native filesystem, not WSL1 I assume? And installed as container in podman?

I'm not sure what's worse: something like this where you wonder what was wrong with the old logo, or a company spending $10m for someone to make their logo slightly bolder? 🤔

That, or something about sFTP transfers which, contrary to the rumours, will probably outlive me too 🤔🤣

You would have thought so wouldn't you, but no (just some git & WSL funny business today). If Bluesky is still around it'll probably be the subject of my last ever post too 😂

For me a "connection" has to be someone I've interacted with (F2F or online) otherwise what's the point?
